Drake Associate Athletic Director Brian Brown announced the hiring of Mai-Ly Tran as the Bulldogs new women’s coach. Tran, who played at Cal State Fullerton from 2004 to 2007, comes to Des Moines after serving as an assistant coach at Cal State Fullerton for the last three seasons. John Hollimon was the interim coach last season and led Drake to a 15-12 record and a semifinal appearance at the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Kentucky women’s head coach Carlos Drada announced the hiring of Federico Sabogal as the Wildcats new assistant coach. Sabogal, who is a 2014 South Florida graduate, was a graduate assistant for the USF women’s team during the 2014-15 season before working as an Assistant Academy Director at Armonk International Tennis Academy in New York last year.

#34 Kevin Anderson (Illinois ’07) came back from a set down to defeat #22 Bernard Tomic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Round of 32 at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Toronto. Next up for Anderson is #5 Stan Wawrinka – the H2H is tied at 4-4 with Anderson winning the last time they played in Toronto in 2014.

#182 Blaz Rola (Ohio State ’13) is into the quarterfinals at the $42.5K Challenger in Prague, Czech Republic. It is Rola’s fourth Challenger quarterfinal this year and he’ll meet #292 Uladzimir Ignatik on Friday.

#282 Lloyd Glasspool (Texas ’15) is into his third Challenger quarterfinal of the year after defeating #290 Nicolas Meister (UCLA ’12) 6-3, 6-2 in the second round at the $50K in Lexington, Kentucky. Next up for Glasspool is #264 Ernesto Escobedo. #235 Daniel Nguyen (USC ’12) also advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating #62 Malek Jaziri 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. The win over Jaziri was Nguyen’s first top 100 win – next up #207 Andrew Whittington.

#333 Tennys Sandgren (Tennessee ’11), #415 Connor Smith (Ohio State ’13), #352 Evan King (Michigan ’13), #394 Gonzalo Escobar (Texas Tech ’12), and #1296 Emil Reinberg (Georgia Rising Soph) are into the quarterfinals at the $25K Futures event in Edwardsville, Illinois. Reinberg is the only one of the five that isn’t a seed and in fact he came all the way through qualies to reach his second quarterfinal this summer. Reinberg defeated the Godfrey Futures runner-up #401 Facundo Mena 7-6(0), 6-4 in the second round and on Friday he will meet #382 Omar Jasika who was the 2014 US Open Junior Champion. Sandgren and Smith will meet on Friday as will King and Escobar. King is the defending champion of the event so he is defending 27 points this week.

#623 Sander Gille (East Tennessee ’12) moved into the quarterfinals at the $10K Futures in Duinbergen, Belgium. It is Gille’s third quarterfinal of the year and second in as many weeks – next up #568 Omar Salman.

#799 Aziz Dougaz (Florida State Rising Soph) advanced to his second career semifinal after defeating #1174 Skander Mansouri (Wake Forest Rising Jr) 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at the $10K Futures in Nador, Morocco. Next up Dougaz is #727 Alexander Zhurbin.

#1245 Nuno Borges (Mississippi State Rising Soph) and lucky loser #1398 Benjamin Hannestad (South Florida commit) are into the quarterfinals at the $10K Futures in Castelo Branco, Portugal. Borges defeated #580 Andres Artunedo Martinavarro 6-4, 6-4 in the second round and will face #610 Jonny O’Mara in the quarters. Hannestad lost in the final round of qualies but got into the draw as a lucky loser and will now meet the top seed #383 Joao Domingues.

Alberto Barroso Campos (South Florida Rising Soph) came through qualies and has earned his first ATP points at the $10K Futures in Xativa, Spain. Barroso Campos, who is transferring from D2’s St. Leo to USF, defeated #1056 Jaime Fermosell Delgado 6-4, 6-4 in the first round and #537 Ricardo Rodriguez-Pace 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in the second round. Next up is the top seed #404 Pedro Martinez Portero.

#359 Dragos Dima (Cornell ’12) has won eight matches in a row, and 12 of his last 14, and is into his seventh semifinal this year after crushing #823 Ronan Joncour 6-0, 6-2 at the $10K Futures in Cluj Napoca, Romania. Next up #893 Nicolae Frunza.

#474 Mikelis Libietis (Tennessee ’15) won his eighth match in a row after defeating #680 Nicolas Alberto Arreche 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the $10K Futures in Parnu, Estonia. Next up #909 Patrik Niklas-Salminen.

#963 Rishab Agarwal (Mississippi State Rising Sr) advanced to his first quarterfinal of the year after routing  #477 Antoine Escoffier 6-2, 6-1 at the $10K Futures in Thu Dau Mot City, Vietnam. Next up #650 Gengo Kikuchi.

#766 Ronit Yurovsky (Michigan ’16), Felicity Maltby (Texas Tech Rising Soph), and #1058 Josie Kuhlman (Florida Rising Jr) each advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITF $10K in Austin, Texas. Yurovsky will face #737 Katherine Sebov, Maltby takes on #686 Ashley Kratzer, and Kuhlman meets #585 Alexa Graham.

#255 Jamie Loeb (North Carolina ’15) advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITF $50K in Lexington, Kentucky, after a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over #152 Lin Zhu. Next up #341 Greetje Minnen. #376 Francesca Di Lorenzo (Ohio State Rising Soph) won her first round match in Lexington after coming back from 3-0 down in the third set to defeat #144 Grace Min 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. She dropped her second round match to #197 Sabina Sharipova 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-1.
