All the top seeds took the court today in Kalamazoo for the second round of the Boys 18 National Championships and for the most part they had very little trouble. Each of the top 22 seeds won with 19 of them winning in straight sets however 6 of the bottom 10 were knocked out. Below were the seeded losers with college commitments listed in parenthesis.

John McNally, who is also a 2017 Ohio State commit and the second seed, rolled through the first set then faced more resistance in the second. McNally earned a late break to close out a 6-1, 7-5 win. Here was a point from early in the first set.

The top seed Michael Mmoh, who has already turned pro, faced a stiff test but managed to get past 2017 UC Davis commit Ivan Thamma 6-4, 6-4.

Jose Hernandez-Fernandez (North Carolina ’12) won his first singles title this year, seventh overall, after winning two matches o n Saturday at the $25K in Italy. Jose defeated #1003 Jacopo Stefanini 6-3, 6-4 then a few hours later he beat #417 Bastian Malla 6-4, 6-4 in the finals.
Alexis Musialek (Kentucky ’12) advanced to the finals of the $10K in Belgium with a 6-3, 6-3 win over #835 Botic Van De Zandschulp – next up #438 Mats Moraing.
Mikelis Libietis (Tennessee ’15) had his 14-match winning streak get snapped in a 6-4, 7-5 loss to #507 Laurynas Grigelis in the finals of the $10K in Latvia
Mikael Torpegaard (Ohio State Rising Jr) lost to #521 Casper Ruud 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 is in the finals of the $10K in Finland
Yannick Maden (Clemson ’13) lost to #383 Peter Torebko 6-2, 6-1 in the finals of the $10K in Germany
