Yesterday I gave you the men’s preseason rankings and today here are the women’s preseason individual rankings. These preseason rankings are simply last year’s final rankings with all the graduating seniors removed along with those that turned pro or are taking the fall off to play pro events. There are no freshmen included in these initial singles rankings although there is a list of the top 10 newcomers.

North Carolina’s Hayley Carter, who finished last year ranked No. 2, is the top ranked singles player followed by Pepperdine sophomore Luisa Stefani, Ohio State sophomore Francesca Di Lorenzo, Georgia junior Ellen Perez, and Miami junior Sinead Lohan.

Kentucky’s Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi were No. 1 in the doubles rankings with Florida’s Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan coming in at No. 2.

The only player that I’m aware of that went pro in the offseason that otherwise would have been ranked was Stanford’s Carol Zhao – she would have been No. 16.

The rankings were revised a few hours after they were released due to a few errors that I noticed. Originally Stanford’s Taylor Davidson and Caroline Doyle were ranked incorrectly – Davidson was showing 29 instead of 22 while Doyle was showing 48 instead of 52.

I noticed that Kentucky’s Justina Mikulskyte, Indiana’s Paula Gutierrez, and LSU’s Kennan Johnson were all ranked at the end of last season but none of them were ranked now. I reached out to the ITA’s Ranking Coordinator, Chris Eriksson, and he told those player’s names were not submitted by their respective coaches for the preseason rankings.

I thought Despoina (Debbie) Vogasari would also be ranked, since she was ranked No. 99 last season, but she is no longer listed on Houston’s roster – she was showing as a junior last season so I’m not sure what the story is there.

There were five players that finished last season ranked with one team but enter this season ranked with another – Mayar Sherif Ahmed (Fresno State to Pepperdine), Donika Bashota (Washington State to TCU), Wendy Zhang (Miami to Rice), Ekaterina Stepanova (Wisconsin to William & Mary), and Viktoriya Dzyuba (Pacific) to Lipscomb)

There were several schools that had multiple players ranked but the only Non-Power 5 schools to make the list were Pepperdine (WCC), Rice (CUSA), and William & Mary (CAA).

Schools with multiple ranked singles players (includes newcomers):
6 – Ohio State, Stanford
5 – Florida, Pepperdine, Texas Tech
4 – California, Duke, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, USC
3 – Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami FL, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia Tech
2 – Alabama, Auburn, Boston College, Michigan, Northwestern, Rice, Syracuse, TCU, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, William & Mary

Below are your top 125 plus the 10 newcomers along with their respective Universal Tennis Ratings as of 9/14/16.
