13 players with college ties won pro events last week with another 15 finishing as runner-up.
Wil Spencer (Georgia ’12) won his third career Futures singles title with a straight set win over Illinois junior Aron Hiltzik at the $25K USA F31 Futures in Houston. Spencer broke Hiltzik from 15/40 to take the first set 6-4 and then after falling behind 3-1 in the second Spencer reeled off five straight games to close it out 6-4, 6-3 in 1 hour and 18 minutes. Spencer is expected to rise from 730 to around 585 in next week’s rankings while Hiltzik will shoot up from 1580 to around 885.

Alejandro Gomez (Kentucky ’14) swept both the singles and doubles titles at the $10K Colombia F5 Futures in Manizales. Gomez won his second career singles title (both this year) after defeating the No. 2 seed Daniel Galan 7-6(4), 6-4. Gomez won his third doubles title, second this year, when he and Felipe Mantilla defeated Oscar Gutierrez and Wilson Leite 6-4, 6-3.
Remi Boutillier (Fresno State ’12) won his first singles title of the year, eighth overall, with a 6-4, 6-1 win over wild card Evan Furness at the $10K France F22 Futures in Saint-Dizier.
John Isner (Georgia ’07) won his second career Masters Series doubles title when he and Jack Sock defeated John Peers (Baylor ’11) and Henri Kontinen 6-4, 6-4 in the finals of the Shanghai Rolex Masters. Isner and Sock split $323K for winning the title.
Mackenzie McDonald (UCLA) won his fifth career doubles title and first Challenger after he and Brian Baker defeated Eric Quigley (Kentucky ’12) and Sekou Bangoura (Florida) 6-3, 6-4 in the finals of the $100K Fairfield, California, Challenger. Coincidently Baker defeated McDonald in the first round of the singles draw. McDonald and Baker split $6200 for winning the title.
Evan King (Michigan ’13) won his 15th career doubles title and first Challenger when he and Denis Kudla defeated Ben McLachlan (Cal ’14) and Jarryd Chaplin (Tennessee ’14) 6-7(4), 6-4, 1-0 (2) in the finals of the $100K+H Monterrey, Mexico, Challenger. King and Kudla split $6200 for winning the title.
Stefanie Tan (TCU ’15) won her second career singles title when she defeated Jessy Rompies (Clemson ’15) 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the ITF $10K in Jakarta, Indonesia. Tan will see her singles ranking hit a new career high of around 495 when these points are added in next week. The weekend wasn’t a total loss for Rompies because she and her former Clemson teammate Beatrice Gumulya won their seventh career pro doubles title as a team with a 6-0, 6-2 whitewashing over Pei-Ju Chen and Tomoko Dokei.
