Virginia senior Thai-Son Kwiatkowski moved into the doubles final and singles semifinals after picking up straight set wins in both of his Thursday’s matches at the $10K Mayaguez, Puerto Rico F1 Futures. Kwiatkowski started off the day with a sound 6-1, 6-3 win over Kalamazoo Boys 18 runner-up Vasil Kirkov. Kwiatkowski won 32 of 37 (.865) points on serve and 29 of 56 (.518) on Kirkov’s serve while breaking the 17 year-old four times. Following a brief break Kwiatkowski and Quinton Vega, who spent a few years at Wisconsin, defeated the Lock Brothers. Ben and Courtney, 6-4, 6-2. Kwiatkowski will now face recent UNC Tar Heel Brayden Schnur in the singles semifinals while he and Vega will face the top seeds Ilija Vucic (St. John’s ’12*) and Nebojsa Peric in the doubles final.

Guillermo Nunez (TCU Jr) advanced to his first pro final since April 2014 when he and Nicolas Jarry defeated Bastian Malla and Jorge Montero 7-6(5), 7-6(7) in the semifinals at the $10K Chile F8 Futures in Santiago. Nunez and Jarry will face Carlos Cuevas and Juan Pablo Paz in the finals on Friday. 
 
Sadio Doumbia (Georgia ’12) and Fabien Reboul advanced to the doubles final at the $10K Thailand F5 Futures in Hua Hin after defeating Adrian Andrzejczuk and Mateusz Smolicki 7-6(7), 6-4. Doumbia and Reboul will face Soon Woo Kwon and Jea Moon Lee in the finals.
 
David Volfson (Cornell Soph), Gary Kushnirovich (St. John’s ’13), and Karunuday “KU” Singh (Georgia ’13) advanced to the doubles semifinals at the $10K Hong Kong F4 Futures. Volfson and Rhett Purcell will play Cheng-Peng Hsieh and Pak Long Yeung while Kushnirovic and Singh will meet Jack Wong and Karan Rastogi. 
 
Skyler Butts (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps ’16) who earned his first ATP point earlier in the week fell in the second round in Hong Kong to Tung-lin Wu 6-1, 6-1.
 
 
2015 Virginia graduate Mitchell Frank was recently named as a men’s assistant coach at George Mason. Frank, who had been injured off and on since finishing up his collegiate career, last played on the Futures circuit in July before retiring in the final round of qualies.
