Monday was a light day for competition with many teams gearing up for conference tournaments this weekend but there was one match of substance that took place in Tampa between No. 26 South Florida and No. 34 Memphis. Memphis put itself in great shape to take the doubles point after winning 6-3 at No. 1 and leading 4-0 at No. 2 but South Florida's Justin Roberts and Peter Bertran came storming back to win the decider in a tiebreak by an 8-6 score. In singles action, South Florida took opening sets at 2, 3, 5, and 6 and Alberto Barroso Campos and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy would close out their matches at 3 and 5 in straight sets to make it 3-0. USF junior Peter Bertran would get the clincher at No. 4 with a come from behind 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 win and with that win South Florida locked up the top seed in this week's American Conference Tournament which will be held in Orlando at the USTA National Campus.

There are 11 men's conference tournaments that will take place this week with the American Athletic Conference, the Sun Belt, and Conference USA the three biggest. There are also 11 women's conference tournaments taking place this week with by far and away the biggest taking place in Nashville as Vanderbilt hosts the SEC Tournament. All 14 teams in the SEC will be ranked in this week's ITA Top 50 plus they'll be 3 teams ranked in the top 4 and 9 teams in the top 20. To see tournament draws and information on each conference tournament check out my Conference Tournament Central page which for the time being just has all the men's info but I'm planning on creating a women's page as well in the next day or two. Tons of good info so check it out!!!

The ITA released a very touching 15-minute documentary, narrated by Nicole LaDuca, on the tragic story of Luke Siegel who is the son of former Texas Tech men's head coach Tim Siegel. The documentary talks about the day of the golf cart accident that left Luke fighting for his life and talks about the struggle by the Siegel family to stay positive in a time of such great pain. It's a very moving story that will bring a tear to your eye but it's great the way the college tennis community has come together to support the Siegels. The Siegel family created the Team Luke Foundation whose mission is to bring awareness and provide critical support and assistance to families with children who have suffered an anoxic or traumatic brain injury. Any contribution to the foundation would be greatly appreciated by the Siegel Family and can be made through the link on the Team Luke site. As a reminder Luke turns 11 years-old on Tuesday so make sure you wish him a happy birthday and keep him and the Siegel family in your prayers. Keep on fighting Luke!!
