The Wimbledon main draws were released on Friday with 34 players with college ties set to compete at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. There were 23 former college players in the singles qualifying draws but Irina Falconi was the only one to come through with the former Yellow Jacket qualifying with a straight set win over Mariana Duque-Marino. Falconi’s reward for qualifying will be a match against the top seed and last year’s runner-up Angelique Kerber.

There will be four former college players in the men’s singles draw and two in the women’s singles draw. The men’s doubles draw has 25 former college players while the women’s doubles draw has four. The top seed in the men’s doubles draw belongs to former MTSU Blue Raider and Baylor Bear John Peers and his partner Henri Kontinen.

Cameron Norrie, who recently turned pro, will face ATP #10 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first round while both John Isner and Steve Johnson are seeded and will face Taylor Fritz and Nicolas Kicker respectively. Former Illini Kevin Anderson will have a tough opener against Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.

The ITA announced the selection criteria for the inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. The new event, which will take place in November in Indian Wells, replaces the National Indoor Intercollegiates which had been held in New York City. The singles draw of the new event will be double the size of the NIICs which means more spots for at-large bids and instead of just the all-division Oracle Cup champion getting in they’ll be a spot for the D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO champs. In the past the at-large bids have been awarded pretty much straight off the preseason ITA rankings but this year they’ll be a combination of those, UTRs, and the ITA mid-season unpublished rankings. The Bryan Brothers, Mike and Bob, won their 113th career doubles title with a three-set win in the finals of the ATP 250 Aegon International Eastbourne. The Bryans actually had to play twice on Friday due to rain earlier in the week jamming up the schedule. In their semifinal match they defeated the team of Begemann and Molteni 7-6, 6-4 and in the finals they defeated Bopanna and Sa 6-7, 6-4, 10-3.
