Columbia junior Victor Pham moved into the finals of the Oracle ITA Masters after ousting the top seed Wake Forest junior Petros Chrysochos in three sets. Chrysochos took the opening set 6-2 and also went up a break early in the second but Pham broke back for 2-2 and then held on a no-ad point for 3-2. Pham would break for 5-3 and then have three set points while serving up 40/0 but he double faulted three times and added another unforced error to give the break back. After Chrysochos held for 5-5, Pham held on a no-ad point for 6-5. Chrysochos held to force a tiebreak but Pham jumped out to a 4-1* lead and would go on to take it 7-5.

The third set was all Pham as he ran away with it 6-0 with Chrysochos appearing to run out of gas. Pham’s opponent in Sunday’s final will be Brandon Holt after the USC sophomore stopped the red-hot Johannes Schretter 7-6, 6-0. 

 

UCLA sophomore Ena Shibahara will have a chance to defend her title after defeating the No. 13 seed Oklahoma’s Lily Miyazaki 7-6(6), 6-7(7), 6-2. The ITA’s video recap below shows all the key points and as you’ll see Miyazaki served for the first set and had a set point on the no-ad point but Shibahara got the break with a forehand winner and managed to claim it in a tiebreak.  

Shibahara’s opponent in the final will be Alle Sanford after the UNC freshman held off Pepperdine senior Mayar Ahmed 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Sanford broke on the no-ad point at 4-4 in the third and then served it out from 40/15.

 

 

Shibahara and Holt won the mixed doubles title with an easy 8-1 win over Duke’s Samantha Harris and Baylor’s Johannes Schretter.

Milwaukee Tennis Classic – Miami senior Sinead Lohan will meet ACC rival Syracuse sophomore Miranda Ramirez in Sunday’s women’s final. Lohan advanced to the finals with a three set win over Louisiana Monroe senior Stefana Andrei and a straight set win over Arkansas senior Leolia Jeanjean. Ramirez started off her day with a three set win over Arkansas senior Mia Jurasic and then won a close straight setter over Iowa freshman Yufei Long.

Minnesota senior Felix Corwin will meet Virginia Tech junior Mitch Harper in the men’s final. Corwin started off the day with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Michigan State senior Brett Forman in the quarterfinals and then in the semifinals he defeated Arkansas freshman Josh Howard-Tripp 7-6, 6-3. Harper won both of his matches on Saturday in three sets. He defeated Arkansas fifth-year Jose Salazar 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and then got past Minnesota sophomore Stefan Milicevic 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Both finals will be held at the 10,000 seat University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Florida Gator Ranked +1 – Mississippi State sophomore Giovanni Oradini will meet Florida freshman Duarte Vale in the final of the orange draw. Oradini knocked off the No. 2 seed South Carolina’s Gabriel Friedrich in three sets while Vale stopped Wake Wake Forest freshman Yuval Solomon in straight sets. 

Tulane senior Constantin Schmitz will meet Florida sophomore Johannes Ingildsen in the final of the blue draw. Schmitz advanced to the final with a straight set win over Tennessee’s Scott Jones while Ingildsen won his first straight set match of the weekend with a 6-3, 6-0 win over South Carolina freshman Francisco Cerundolo.

Battle in the Bay Classic – Each of the top eight seeds advanced to the quarterfinals and each of the top four seeds advanced to the semifinals. The top seed TCU junior Alex Rybakov won the only straight set match of the day 6-3, 6-2 over Georgia junior Walker Duncan. Rybakov will meet Nathan Ponwith after the Georgia sophomore defeated UCSB’s Nicolas Moreno de Alboran 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. The other semifinal will match up a pair of teammates as Georgia senior Wayne Montgomery will face junior Emil Reinberg. Montgomery came back from two breaks down in the third set to defeat TCU freshman Alastair Gray 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 while Reinberg defeated USC junior Jack Jaede 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.
