The majority of the field for the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships was released on Thursday but on Friday the field was completed with the addition of a handful of wild cards and a few last minute at-large selections. Baylor sophomore Bjoern Petersen was awarded an Oracle Wild Card into the singles draw which wasn’t too surprising due to Oracle’s Mark Hurd being a Baylor graduate. Georgia’s Wayne Montgomery and Walker Duncan got the extra at-large selection due to UNC’s William Blumberg and Robert Kelly pulling out due to Blumberg possibly getting a wild card into Charlottesville next week. Clemson’s Alex Favrot and Simon Baudry were awarded an Oracle Wild Card which rounded out the men’s doubles field.

The women’s singles field already had its 64 players however there was another addition to the doubles field with Loyola Marymount’s Veronica Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek getting an Oracle Wild Card. The doubles field now has 32 teams but I’m expecting to see one more addition since UCLA’s Jada Hart is listed twice with two different partners.

Six of the top eight seeds moved into the quarterfinals at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships. Azusa Pacific’s Oliver Frank (13.69), who made the finals at the Division II Oracle Cup a few weeks ago, was on one of the two unseeded players to move on after he defeated David Goulak (UC Davis/12.57) and Jake DeVine (USC/13.27). Frank will face another USC Trojan on Saturday when he meets the No. 2 seed Laurens Verboven (13.93). Other quarterfinals matchups are USC’s Brandon Holt versus UC Irvine’s Sebastian Helm, USC’s Tanner Smith versus UCLA’s Max Cressy, and USC’s Logan Smith versus UCLA’s Keegan Smith (no relation). Full results are available at this link

Michigan’s Harrison Brown and Davis Crocker won the Big Ten Doubles Championship which the one day event held in East Lansing, Michigan. Brown and Crocker won five eight-game pro-set matches to pick up the title with two of them decided in a tiebreak. Full results are available at this link. The Big Ten Singles Championship gets underway on Saturday morning with the draw comprised of players from Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, Northwestern, Penn State, Iowa, and Indiana.

Most of the top seeds advanced to the quarterfinals at the 49ers Fall Invitational in Charlotte however there was one big surprise. Gardner-Webb freshman Millen Hurrion (12.47) upset the top seed Ryan Dickerson (Duke/13.64) 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(6). Full results from all singles flights are available at this link
