Typically the ITA only releases one set of individual rankings in the fall, with those being preseason rankings in early September, but today they released a second set of individual rankings which took into account all the results from the past two months. UCLA senior Martin Redlicki jumped up from No. 24 to No. 1 in the men’s singles rankings after going 9-2 with a finals appearance at the All-Americans in Tulsa and a semifinal appearance at the National Fall Championships in California. Redlicki picked up four top 10 wins during the fall with wins over Wake’s Petros Chrysochos, Oregon’s Thomas Laurent, Florida’s Alfredo Perez, and Michigan’s Alex Knight. Redlicki’s only losses came to No. 2 William Blumberg (UNC) and No. 3 Nuno Borges (Miss St).

Florida’s Johannes Ingildsen and Alfredo Perez were the top ranked doubles team after going 7-1. The Florida duo won the All-Americans with wins over three top 10 teams plus they made it to the quarterfinals at the National Fall Championships.

Wake Forest, Ohio State, and Georgia each had five ranked singles players while Tulane, Texas, South Carolina, Ole Miss, North Carolina, and Mississippi State had four. Virginia Tech, UCLA, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Florida State, Florida, Cornell, and Columbia had three ranked players.

The SEC (29) edged out the the ACC (28) for the conference with the most ranked singles players while the Big Ten (12), Pac-12 (11), and Big 12 (10) were all bundled together. The Ivy League (9) and the American (7) were the top conferences outside of the Power 5.

Mississippi State junior Nuno Borges has the top Universal Tennis Rating of all the ranked players. Borges’s UTR of 14.93 (as of 11/15/17) is .16 better than TCU’s Alex Rybakov and .17 better than UNC’s William Blumberg.

There were 12 freshmen ranked with Florida’s Duarte Vale the highest at No. 39. Arizona State’s Benjamin Hannestad, who came in at No. 44, was the only other to crack the top 50.

There were a two names listed near the bottom that I’m not sure how they ended up where they did. UConn sophomore Evan Powell and Wagner senior Charlton Boyd were ranked 110 and 104 respectively although neither had any ranked wins in the fall. The same thing happened last year and it seemed to fix itself when the next rankings were released.

Florida had five doubles teams ranked in the top 60 with several players ranked twice with different doubles partners.

The google doc has the rankings broken down by UTR, school, conference, and year. For easier viewing you can click here.

FYI, I’ll have a post on Thursday with a breakdown of the women’s rankings.
