Friday will be the start of the NCAA Women's Quarterfinals with the top 8 seeds making it to the Elite 8 for the first time since 2011. While the men have a day off between the quarters and semis the women will play three straight days which means fitness is going to be key with most of these matches expected to be hotly contested.

Five of the final eight have won a NCAA Championship with Stanford leading the way with 19 titles, Georgia and UCLA each having 2, while Vanderbilt and Duke have 1. Neither South Carolina or Pepperdine have ever advanced past the quarterfinal round while North Carolina will look to do so for just the third time in program history.

If looking at the UTR Power 6s, Georgia is the biggest favorite (+2.20) in the quarterfinals while No. 5 seed Duke is a favorite over No. 4 South Carolina with a UTR Power 6 of 1.01 point higher.

Slam.Tennis shows that Georgia and North Carolina are both prohibitive favorites, with an expected winning percentage of 96%, while Duke is the smallest favorite with a 56% expected winning percentage over South Carolina.

The USTA National Campus's website has all the links that you'll need to follow the championships so make sure you check out what they have to offer.

Order of finish: Doubles (2,1); Singles (1,2,4,5,6,3)

Prediction & Thoughts: This will be the third meeting of the season between these SEC rivals but the first to be played outdoors. Georgia was pushed by Michigan in the Super Regionals while Vanderbilt played really well against Texas A&M and won going away. If Vanderbilt is going to win the match they'll have to find a way to get a point down low, which is a place where Georgia has dominated this year (57-4), and run the table up top. I think that's too much of an ask because Georgia is going to get at least one point up top - Georgia 4-2

#4 South Carolina vs. #5 Duke (Friday NB 7 pm ET)

  • Ingrid Martins has won her last 8 completed matches and 16 of her last 17
  • Paige Cline has won 4 straight and 11 of her last 12 completed matches

Prediction & Thoughts: Both of these teams are pretty evenly matched with the only spot in the lineup where I see a clear cut favorite being at No. 6 where Duke's Margaryta Bilokin should get a win. The doubles point is going to be huge because I see singles being split with South Carolina grabbing wins at 1, 2, and 4 while Duke wins at 3, 5, and 6 - Duke 4-3

Prediction & Thoughts: Stanford won the first 30 meetings in this series but Pepperdine has taken the last 2. Stanford made a substitution against Kansas and played Niluka Madurawe at No. 6 so we'll have to see if Emma Higuchi returns to the lineup. Stanford is definitely the favorite in this match but if Pepperdine were to pull off the upset I think it comes from taking the doubles point and winning at 1, 2, and 6. Having said that I see the doubles point going to Stanford and Lord, Lampl, and Arbuthnott getting wins in singles - Stanford 4-1

Match Notes:
UCLA 5-1; National ranking #8
North Carolina 8-0; National ranking #3
Order of finish: Doubles (1,3,2); Singles (6,2,5,3)

Prediction & Thoughts: North Carolina has only given up more than two points in a match twice this season (4-3 loss to UGA; 4-3 win over Miami FL) and none of those points have come during doubles. UCLA's most likely path to an upset would be Hart, Bolton, Altick, and Andrews but I like UNC in doubles and Daavettila, Morra, and Aney in singles - North Carolina 4-1
