Both the Atlantic and Carolina Regionals came to a close today with players from Virginia Tech, Old Dominion, Wake Forest, and North Carolina State picking up titles.

Virginia Tech’s Joao Monteiro won the singles championship at the Atlantic Regional, which was hosted by Virginia Tech, with a 6-3, 7-6(4) win over Old Dominion’s Adam Moundir. Monteiro won each of his 6 matches in straight sets with his wins coming over Temple’s Santiago Canete, William & Mary’s Aidan Talcott, Penn State’s Matt Barry, Old Dominion’s Michael Weindl, Penn State’s Aws Laaribi, and Moundir in the final.

ODU’s Adam Moundir may have lost his singles match but he was able to rebound and claim the doubles championship with his partner Aziz Kijametovic as they defeated Virginia Tech’s Eduardo Tessaro and Amerigo Contini 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(8). The ODU duo won matches over teams from Richmond, Radford, Mount St. Mary’s, Penn State, and 2 teams from Virginia Tech.

Wake Forest’s Skander Mansouri capped off a strong week by defeating North Carolina’s Brett Clark 6-3, 6-4 in the finals of the Carolina Regional.  There were only 2 breaks of serve in the match and Mansouri got them both with him breaking the Clark serve at 2-3 in the first set and 4-4 in the second.  Mansouri won 7 singles matches over the last 5 days with his wins coming over UNCW’s Gianlucca Massa, Wofford’s Alan Poric, Coastal Carolina’s Sebastian Schneider, his teammate Keivon Tabrizi, South Carolina’s Thomas Mayronne, and UNC’s Jack Murray and Brett Clark.

North Carolina’s State’s Ian Dempster and Nick Horton won the Carolina Regional doubles championship with a 6-1, 7-6(2) win over Wake Forest’s Romain Bogaerts and Max Kan. Dempster and Horton knocked off teams from Elon, Gardner-Webb, South Carolina, Presbyterian, Charlotte, and Wake Forest with the wins over South Carolina, Presbyterian, and Charlotte coming in 3rd set tiebreaks.
