#8 [8] Ryan Shane (Virginia) def. #9 [9-16] Quentin Monaghan (Notre Dame) 6-4, 6-1

Noah Rubin, Wake Forest
On the match results
“I thought I was very focused throughout. I thought I stepped up when I needed to. I was patient, I knew that my mental game was gonna be important, especially with the possibility of rain. We played the whole match, luckily, Even though he was up 3-0 in the second set, I just kept fighting, fighting, and found my opportunities.
On advancing to the national championship
“Obviously, it’s a great opportunity tomorrow. I am not really thinking about it too much. I might be thinking about it after the tournament. Hopefully, I win tomorrow. I am just going to keep my body in check, keep stretching and resting.
On playing a conference opponent

“I played him [Ryan Shane] in the finals at the ACC tournament and I won 7-6, 6-3. He is a great player, hits a monstrous ball. Probably, one of the best hitters in the country right now.

Ryan Shane, Virginia
On strategy going into match
“I played [Monaghan] during the regular season. He’s a great player who gets a lot of balls back and can attack. I knew coming into this match today that it was going to be a battle. During the first two points, I was a little on edge. After he broke me, I was able to relax, honestly, and stay loose for the rest of the match. That’s what I focused on l being as relaxed as I could be.”
On what it took to make it to the national title match
“I’ve played all the way since the team championships, so it’s been around 14 days now. After each match, I’ve gone back to the hotel and got as many fluids in me as I could. I also ate as healthy as I could. I tried to relax each day as best as I could and not think about tennis as much when I wasn’t on the court.”

Quartefinal Results – May 23nd: (Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center)

#19 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Virginia) def. #17 Winston Lin (Columbia) 6-4, 5-7, 7-5
#9 [9-16] Quentin Monaghan (Notre Dame) def. #39 Cameron Norrie (TCU) 4-6, 6-1, 6-3
#8 [8] Ryan Shane (Virginia) def. #37 Felipe Soares (Texas Tech) 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3
#6 [7] Noah Rubin(Wake Forest) def. #23 Jared Hiltzik(Illinois)  6-7(7), 6-2, 6-2

Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, Virginia
On the difference maker in the match

“Lucky. I was lucky. I played Winston [Lin] earlier in the fall, and he is an incredible player. There were points in the match where we were playing high levels of tennis. It was nice to take a minute to realize that both of us were playing pretty well. I am thankful that I got a few lucky points at the end and happened to get the victory.”

Quentin Monaghan, Notre Dame
On the match results…

“I thought that it was a really good match. Cameron [Norrie] is a really tough player, and I have played him before. I knew it was going to be a battle. He had an incredible year. It was his freshman year. There were a lot of long points, and there were a lot of tough points. It was a physical match, and I was just happy that I was able to win it.”

On playing the match indoors
“Naturally, you get more out of your serve, and points would be a little bit quicker. These courts are actually pretty slow for indoors, so it didn’t really change too much as far as being indoors or outdoors. It felt pretty comfortable, just like outdoors. Maybe a little nicer because of the air conditioning and stuff like that.”
Ryan Shane, Virginia

On breaking Soares’s serve in the third set
“Honestly, [Soares] was doing the same thing the entire match, but it took me until the third set to realize it. He only hit out wide on both sides, and in the third set I stepped out more. It helped a lot to break his serve at 40-15, so it seemed to work.”
On adjustments for tomorrow

“It’s the same thing: rest. I’ve been playing match after match after match, so I’m going to rest my body and try to be as fresh as I can be tomorrow.”

Noah Rubin, Wake Forest
On mid-match adjustments
“I didn’t change too much. The first set was 7-6, with four set points, which is never fun to lose. But, [Hiltzak] is a great player. He knows how to stay out there and neutralize all the balls. I just had to keep my focus up and be a little more patient than I was in the first game. These are really slow courts in the indoors and the balls start fuzzing up real quick. It’s tough to put away balls. I knew that if I stayed out there focused that I could get early breaks, and that’s what happened.”

Semifinals – May 24th

#19 Lloyd Glasspool/Sren Hess-Olesen (Texas) def. #8 [5-8] Diego Galeano/Julian Lenz (Bay) 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(3)

Texas Tech Doubles
Hugo Dojas
On approach to the match
“We enter the game with less energy than some of the games we had before. We could’ve picked it up.

On playing a conference opponent in the championship
“I think it’s good, because we already played both teams. It is great because we are going to have a Big 12 [national] champion. Big 12, for sure, has one of the toughest conferences in America. So, I think it is pretty good.

Felipe Soares
On the match results
“I think the energy was the key in the match. When we got the first point, it brought us up and we were able to finish holding the serve easy. That was the key.

On advancing to the national championship
“It’s amazing. We have been waiting for this tournament since the beginning of the season. We prepared well for this, as well. Now, we’ve been having an awesome week.

On playing a conference opponent in the championship
“We have seen those guys play earlier in the season. But, we lost to both of them. So, hopefully this time we win. It’s just nice to have two teams from the Big 12 in the final. It comes to show how good the Big 12 is.

Texas Men’s Doubles
Sren HessOlesen

On comeback after losing the first set
“We played well in the first two games, but were pretty nervous in the beginning. I wasn’t aggressive enough or taking my time on the serves. I gave them time on my serve, and they’re a very good team when they have time. This may have been my last match ever, so I decided to go for
it. Lloyd really stepped up and played well. He carried me through the second set.”

On the all-Big 12 final
“We played them earlier this season, and it was one of the best matches that we competed in. Texas Tech is a very good team and awesome guys who’ve played well all season. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow because I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. Our coaches know each other well, and we know them well. We always get the best out of each other, and it’s going to be a fun doubles match tomorrow.”

Lloyd Glasspool
On what it took to win
“Our strategy today was to make a lot of first serves. In the first set, we didn’t make enough and it hurt us. In the second set, we came out a lot stronger, and they seemed to struggle with that.”

On Texas Tech
“We did play them once before, but it’s a totally different match tomorrow. It’s the finals of the NCAA Doubles Championship. They’ve gotten so much better since the last time we played them, so we’re going to have to bring it tomorrow.”

Quarterfinals – May 23rd

#22 Hugo Dojas/Felipe Soares (Tx Tech) def. #1 [1] Austin Smith/Ben Wagland(GA) 6-2, 6-3
#18 Harry Jadun/John Patrick Mullane (Mich St) def. #14 Boris Arias/Jordan Daigle (LSU) 6-3, 6-4

#19 Lloyd Glasspool/Sren Hess-Olesen (Texas) def. #24 Arjun Kadhe/Jakob Sude (Okla St) 6-4, 6-2

Texas Tech Men’s Doubles
Felipe Soares
On the match results
“We started a little bit slow, a little bit cold. Once we got going, it became much easier. We played very well. We’re doing everything very well, not only serving, but returning serves too.”
Hugo Dojas
On the match results
“We started a little slow. We hoped we could lift each other up after the two first games, so I’m extremely grateful for having a coach that understands the doubles so well. So I think that was key for our match against Georgia.”

Michigan State Men’s Doubles

John Patrick Mullane
On the match results
“We had a game plan coming in, and we stuck to it the whole time. It was working, and from there, we really didn’t change it up too much. We stuck with it. It was working. We got a little weird out there. The coaches helped a ton. The parents helped a ton. It went well today. It went really well today. We played solid.”
Harry Jadun
On the match results
“The game plan was spot on. We followed that to a T, and it was the blueprint to win the match. That is credit to the coaching staff. We just go out there and hit our strokes. We just have some fun. It is just so much fun. It is the NCAA’s. It is my senior year, his junior year, and you never know when you are going to be back here playing this level of tennis. It’s awesome. We are having fun, and we are grinding and competing.”

Texas Men’s Doubles
Sren Hess-Olsen
On the match results
“I think it was pretty solid, overall. I don’t think any of us broke until the 8th or 9th game. There were a lot of first serves on both sides. We returned pretty well, except for the first couple of games. We were very solid from the baseline, moving pretty well. Overall, I thought it was a solid performance.”
Lloyd Glasspool
On the match results
“There was nothing special, really. There were good first serves good returns. The second ball after the return worked today.”
On if indoors match changed strategy
“Serve and return mean a lot more indoors. You need to make a lot more first serves, but after that, it is pretty similar.”
Baylor Men’s Doubles
Diego Galeano, Baylor
On the match results.
“These matches are longer than we are used to playing the entire season, so we just need to keep playing every set like the last one. It’s my last match at Baylor if we lose, so we are just trying to play every point, every game.
Julian Lenz, Baylor
On the match results
“I thought we did pretty well, played well. We had a bunch of opportunities towards the end of the first set. We couldn’t really execute there because they always played well when they were facing the wall with their back.
