Saturday brings us a pair of Top 25 matches with #9 Texas hosting #21 Texas Tech and #10 TCU hosting #22
#21 Texas Tech (16-5) at #9 Texas (15-3) – 4pm est (Longhorn Network) – Texas Tech is coming off a close 4-2 loss to TCU while Texas lost to Oklahoma 4-1 last Sunday. Neither team has played well in doubles with Texas going 9-9 while Texas Tech is a poor 5-9 (didn’t play doubles point in 7 matches). The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies and temps in the low 60s for this one.
FYI, the number beside the player’s school is the player’s Universal Tennis Rating as of April 3rd. For more details about UTR check out their website.
Projected Singles Lineup:
Projected Doubles Lineup with W-L in ( ):
I like Texas in doubles and I expect Soren-Hess Olesen to return to his winning ways after going 0-2 last weekend. I think Texas Tech’s Jolan Cailleau will extend his winning streak to 12 with a win at #4 and I think Zambron will be close to handing Nick Naumann his 5th loss in a row at #5. As I mentioned above I like Soren at #1 plus I also look for Glasspool and Homs to win at #2 and #6 with the remaining match at #3 splitting sets. Prediction: Texas 4-1
#22 South Florida (14-5) at #10 TCU (16-6) – South Florida is coming off a 4-1 win at SMU while TCU defeated Texas Tech 4-2 on Thursday. USF has been the better team in doubles going 15-4 while TCU is 13-8. Going into the year I figured these were both teams with top 20 potential but wasn’t sure which one would break through. TCU has answered the bell and moved into the top 10 while South Florida has played well against some of the big boys but hasn’t been able to bust through with a top 10 win.
Projected Singles Lineup:
2. Oliver Pramming (USF 13.48) vs. #36 Nick Chappell (TCU 13.90)
3. Sasha Gozun (USF 13.60) vs. #76 Guillermo Nunez (TCU 13.78)
4. Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz (USF 13.23) vs. Arnau Dachs (TCU 13.89)
5. Vadym Kalyuzhnyy (USF 13.15) vs. Facundo Lugones (TCU 13.58)
6. Justin Roberts (USF 13.07) vs. Will Stein (TCU 13.29)
I look for South Florida to take the doubles point and I think they have a decent chance at 4 and 5 but TCU slides through at 1, 2, 3, and 6. I wanted to add the W-L records for each but ran out of time – sorry! Prediction: TCU 4-3
Saturday Storylines
Kentucky seems to finally be putting it all together after a rough start to the year. The Wildcats have won 2 straight conference matches and in the 3 losses before that they gave Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Georgia all they wanted. Can UK make it 3 in a row or does #14 Ole Miss put them away by taking the doubles point and sweeping the top 3 singles?
#51 Oregon came close to knocking off #38 Stanford yesterday – can they take that next step against #33 Cal or are the Bears too strong?
#28 Columbia has only played 1 match in the last 2 weeks – can they knock off the rust and pick up a road win in Hanover or does #50 Dartmouth win its Ivy League opener?
