#1 singles – Biosca won his final 10 and 12 of 13 with the only loss coming to #30 Austin Smith and that loss was 7-6 in the 3rd while Contini split his final 6. Prediction: DNF with Biosca (ETSU) leading.

I’m going to take ETSU in doubles and I think Biosca will be close at #1 but I like Virginia Tech everywhere else though the Bucs will keep this one close. Prediction: Virginia Tech 4-1

Projected Singles Lineups
1. #21 Roberto Cid (USF 14.37) vs. Garrett Patton (BSU 13.35)

6. Vadym Kalyuzhnyy (USF 13.29) vs. Abe Hewko (BSU 12.26)

South Florida won the doubles point 80% of the time this year and I think they get it here to take the early 1-0 lead. There aren’t too many singles courts where I’d give Boise much of a chance because Cid, Pramming, Gonzalez-Muniz, Roberts, and Kalyuzhnyy should all win for USF. Prediction: South Florida 4-0

4. Diego Galeano (BU 13.79) vs. Oliver Welsh (BRY 11.58)
5. #116 Mate Zsiga (BU 14.01) vs. Max Vogt (BRY 11.06)

6. Felipe Rios (BU 14.07) vs. Jorge Ortiz-Garcia (BRY 10.56)
Others who could play: Vince Schneider (BU 13.51)

Baylor wins easily by taking the doubles point and then picking up singles wins from Tchoutakian, Zsiga, and Rios. Prediction: Baylor 4-0

[17-32] LSU (17-8) vs. [33-48] Texas-San Antonio (17-8) – Friday 4pm – #29 LSU got an at-large bid after losing 4-0 to #5 Texas A&M in the SEC quarterfinals while #59 UTSA earned an automatic bid by beating #62 Rice 4-2 in the Conference USA Championship. UTSA faced 12 ranked teams going 4-8 with its best win over #61 Old Dominion. UTSA took #5 Texas A&M down to the wire before losing 4-3 in a match that saw the doubles point decided by a tiebreak at #2 and with the final singles match finishing 6-3 in the 3rd. LSU went 8-8 against ranked teams with its best win over #24 Vanderbilt.

Doubles Records: LSU 18-8, UTSA 18-6

UTR Starting 6 Power Rating: LSU 81, UTSA 77

Projected Singles Lineups

1. #76 Jordan Daigle (LSU 13.30) vs. #70 Tomas Stillman (UTSA 13.93)
2. Chris Simpson (LSU 13.85) vs. Yannick Junger (UTSA 12.98)
3. Boris Arias (LSU 13.63) vs. Tito Moreiras (UTSA 13.23)
4. Andrew Korinek (LSU 13.13) vs. Joel Rubio (UTSA 12.54)
5. Justin Butsch (LSU 13.59) vs. Joao Riquelme (UTSA 12.10)
6. Simon Freund (LSU 12.86) vs. Diogo Casa (UTSA 12.20)

Others who could play: Tam Trinh (LSU 13.02)

Tam Trinh is listed at #4 in the lineup but he’s only played twice in the last month (injury?) so I think they probably move 5, 6, and 7 up a spot.

#1 singles – Tomas Stillman went 20-3 on the year with wins over #47 Jeremy Efferding and #99 Peter Nagy while Jordan Daigle went 9-4 with 5 of his last 6 matches going unfinished. Daigle’s best win came over #12 Dominik Koepfer earlier in the year. Prediction: Stillman (UTSA) in 2

#2 singles – Simpson went 14-6 though he dropped 3 of his last 4 while Junger went 9-13 losing his last 4 along the way. Prediction: Simpson (LSU) in 2.

#3 singles – Arias went 15-3 and won 8 of his last 10 while Moreiras went 17-5 winning 3 of his last 4. Prediction: Arias (LSU) in 3

#4 singles – Korinek went 7-9 dropping his last 3 while Rubio went 7-14 losing 5 of his last 6. Prediction: Korinek (LSU) in 2

#5 singles – Butsch went 17-6 splitting his last 6 while Riquelme went 10-8 winning his last 3. Prediction: Butsch (LSU) in 2

#6 singles – Freund went 9-4 dropping 3 of his last 5 while Casa went 10-5 winning his last 9. Prediction: Casa (UTSA) in 3

LSU dropped the doubles point in 5 of its last 6 matches while UTSA won it in its final 4 matches. I think UTSA has a decent shot at stealing the point to grab the early lead. I like Stillman and Casa in singles for the Roadrunners but LSU picks up wins from Simpson, Arias, Korinek, and Butsch to pull it out.  Prediction: LSU 4-3
