Sunday Wrap Up – De Vroome Wins SoCal, Jared Hiltzik Wins UTR Decatur Open, Kentucky & Oregon Win 2 Flights, Sisko Wins MAC

USC senior Max De Vroome won the 59th annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships by defeating UCLA senior Karue Sell 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-2 in the championship match which was held on the campus of UCLA at the LA Tennis Center. De Vroome was the #1 seed and Sell was the #3 seed.

UC Santa Barbara’s Nathan Eshmade and Miles Seemann won the doubles draw with a 6-3, 6-3 win over USC’s Kalman Boyd and David Laser. Eshmade and Seemann beat the #2 seed USC’s Max De Vroome and Jack Jaede 8-5 in the 1st round, Azusa Pacific’s Shepherd Newcomb and Olger Van Gent 8-7(3) in the quarters, and USC’s Connor Farren and Tanner Smith 6-1, 6-3 in the semis

Illinois senior and #2 seed Jared Hiltzik knocked off a current and former teammate in the semis and finals to win the inaugural UTR Decatur Open. In the semis he beat sophomore and #4 seed Toshiki Matsuya 7-6, 7-6 and in the finals he got past #1 seed Farris Gosea 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Gosea punched his spot to the finals with a tough 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 win over fellow class of ’15 member and #3 seed Tim Kopinski.

The Louisville Invitational came to a close with Kentucky’s Nils Ellefsen and Kevin Lai winning the top 2 singles flights while  Lipscomb’s John Tougher took the C draw. Full results from the week are here.

It was a banner weekend for Oregon as the Ducks swept the podium at the Larry Easley Memorial Classic in Las Vegas with Jayson Amos winning the Flight 1 draw and Ethan Young-Smith winning the Flight 2 draw. Young-Smith teamed up with Sawicki to take the doubles title too.  Full day 3 results are here.

UNC Wilmington ended up the big winner at its Seahawk Fall Invitational as it won 25 of 30 matches including 8 of 9 matches on Sunday.  Below are the full results from the 3 day event.

Lenhard Haupt (USC-U) d. Stathi Kyriakides (UR), 6-3, 6-1

Buffalo and host Western Michigan each won 2 singles flights at the MAC Invite while Toledo’s Stjepan Sisko won the top flight getting past Buffalo’s Amar Hromic in a 3rd set supertiebreak. The “C” draw final actually wasn’t played since it matched 2 guys from Western Michigan so they each played someone else and Andrew Kahn was determined the draw winner since he lost the least number of sets. Arkansas’s Santiago Munoz was the only one to go a perfect 3-0 in singles at the FGCU Fall Invite after defeating Central Florida’s Nico De Fraia 6-3, 6-3. Central Florida’s Tyler Pate and Arkansas’s Jacob Herndon just missed going 3-0 after Pate fell to Arkansas’s Austin Robles 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(3) and Herndon went down to Central Florida’s Arjun Watane 6-2, 6-4.
