Jimmy Bendeck was the big winner at the Porsche Napa Valley Tennis Classic after the Baylor sophomore went 3-0 in singles action and then won USTA Wildcard Shootout by winning three 10-point supertiebreaks. Bendeck’s shootout win guarantees him a main draw wildcard into a future USTA Challenger event. Bendeck had a solid freshman year in Waco going 17-8 in dual-match play while splitting time between No. 4 and No. 5 singles and it looks like he’s progressing towards another strong season.

Here are a few quotes from Baylor head coach Matt Knoll on Bendeck’s performance and the weekend as a whole via Baylor’s recap

“Jimmy has worked hard since he has gotten back to school. We have been training hard in the mornings and doing a lot of running. Today was very warm by California standards and I think that helped us. What was great to see was that Jimmy just played better and better as the event wore on. He really played his best tennis today and that was fun to see.” – head coach Matt Knoll on Bendeck’s win

“This tournament had a great field. We always pride ourselves on playing a good schedule. We wanted to come out here and see some of the best guys and teams in the country. The results were a little up and down, but we grew a lot. Today, particularly, Max and Constantin played much better. Bjoern learned a lot, so it was a really good experience for us.” – Knoll on the weekend

Bendeck wasn’t the only one that had a a nice weekend in Napa as Cal senior Andre Goransson, Cal junior Billy Griffith, USC senior Rob Bellamy, and Texas freshman Christian Sigsgaard each posted a perfect record during the round robin portion.

Michael Heller was the top performer, in terms of record, from the USTA Junior National Team as the 16-year old Weston, Florida, native went 2-1. Christian Alshon had the most impressive win, in terms of UTR, as the 16-year old from Boca Raton defeated Cal senior Filip Bergevi 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 – Bergevi’s UTR is 1.14 higher.

Below are the full day 3 results along with all the singles results from the past three days.

Greater Cincinnati Invitational – draws/results

Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islander Open – haven’t seen final draws but will post when I do.&nbsp

Coaches/Tournament Directors, if there is a tournament you are hosting and you want to make sure that I post the results make sure you send me an email (bobbyk@collegetennistoday.com) with all the results from each day of competition (including results from the other participants as well). I try to include as many tournament results as possible but if I can’t find them all in one place I’ll probably move on to another tournament that is easier to follow.
