Players from the Power 5 conferences claimed 7 of the 8 qualifying spots in California with Pepperdine’s Mayar Sherif Ahmed being the lone exception. UCLA freshman Ena Shibahara was the only player from the pre-qualifying draw to make it all the way to the main draw after the Bruin won all six matches in straight sets.

Final Women’s Qualifying Singles & Doubles Draw

The main draw was released late on Wednesday evening with the 32-women draw filled up by 8 qualifiers, 8 at-large selections, 12 regional representatives (6 of which were All-Americans), 3 All-Americans, and 1 wild card.

The last at-large selection into the main draw was NC State’s Martina Frantova who was ranked No. 29 so that meant there were 10 players who took a pass on the weekend festivities for one reason or another. Below are the top who would have been eligible based off ranking.

#4 Ellen Perez (Georgia)
#6 Brooke Austin (Florida)
#7 Maegan Manasse (Cal)
#11 Brienne Minor (Michigan)
#12 Sydney Campbell (Vanderbilt)
#13 Andie Dikosavljevic (Auburn)
#16 Joana Valle Costa (LSU)
#20 Johnnise Renaud (Georgia Tech)
#28 Katherine Ip (Rice)

Both Valle Costa and Renaud were last minute withdrawals which allowed Kourtney Keegan and Martina Frantova to slide in.

There were three wild cards available to be awarded but as far as I could tell the only one actually given out went to Texas Tech’s Alex Valenstein for winning the ITA Summer Championship.

Don’t forget your can watch the FloTennis stream if you are a subscriber ($19.99 mo or $149.99 yr) – I do not believe there is any other live scoring available.

This is the what the FloTennis feed looked like for the Grass Court event in Newport.
