The 4 team 4 match Pac 12/SEC Challenge came to a conclusion today in Athens and it was USC being crowned the unofficial champs by virtue of being the only team to finish the weekend undefeated. The Trojans got off to a quick start by going up early breaks on all 3 doubles courts and while Georgia was able to get it back on serve at #3 doubles USC wouldn’t let up at 1 or 2 and finished those 2 rather quickly to grab the 1-0 lead. USC came out strong in singles as well taking 3 of 4 1st sets (4 indoor courts being utilized) and while Georgia would battle back they just couldn’t keep up with the USC power. Yannick Hanfmann, Roberto Quiroz, and Eric Johnson would give USC the 3 points it needed with wins at 1, 2, and 4 and as the weekend finished up USC would go 2-0, Georgia 1-1, Florida 1-1, and UCLA 0-2 (see below for FLA/UCLA box score)

In College Station, Texas A&M and Ohio State needed 2 days to finish its duel because play was halted yesterday by rain so the teams resumed play around noon today. Texas A&M claimed the doubles point on Saturday and also picked up 2 1st sets before the rain settled in but Ohio State rallied on Sunday by taking 3 of the first 4 to finish to go ahead 3-2. Ohio State’s Kevin Metka would have a match point in the 2nd set tiebreak against Texas A&M’s Arthur Rinderknech but the Aggie freshman would fight it off and send the match to a 3rd set. While Rinderknech and Metka exchanged served holds in the 3rd, Texas A&M’s #1 Shane Vinsant would take control of the match at #1 singles and would even the team score at 3 a piece. Metka fought off break point after break point but in the 5 all service game he finally couldn’t rally from 0-40 down and Rinderknech broke for 6-5 then served it out at 40-15 to give the Aggies a win over Ohio State for the 2nd time in the last 3 years.
