The newest rankings were released today with 8 of the top 10 teams getting shuffled around. The two teams not to move were Virginia who stayed at #1 and Ohio State who stayed at #8. TCU came up from #3 to #2 after Oklahoma lost to Wake Forest on Sunday. Oklahoma dropped from #2 to #5 after the loss which meant that both Texas A&M and Baylor slid up one spot each to #3 and #4. USC is up two spots from #8 to #6 after beating Florida, North Carolina came up three spots from #10 to #7 after beating Illinois, UCLA came up three spots from #12 to #9 after beating Georgia, and Wake Forest came up one spot after beating Oklahoma and losing to Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State made the biggest jump inside the top 50 by coming up 8 spots from #25 to #17 after convincingly beating both Wake Forest and Minnesota last weekend.
Michigan was the biggest riser overall by coming from unranked all the way up to #54 after beating both Princeton and Cornell during the Big Ten/Ivy League Challenge last weekend at the USTA National Tennis Center.
There were no women’s rankings released this week since the National Team Indoors get started on Friday in Madison. I still don’t get why they keep the rankings a secret the week of the NTIs and NCAAs – transparency helps silence controversy.
Yesterday I did my own men’s top 25 so if you didn’t see those you can look them over and compare them to these.
Below I’ll look at the teams that moved up at least 4 spots and then look at the teams that fell at least 4 spots with any notable results listed from the last week through this past Sunday.
Movin’ On Up:
#25 Oklahoma State – up 8 spots – beat #10 Wake Forest 4-2; beat #23 Minnesota 6-1
#32 NC State – up 4 spots – didn’t play last week
#34 Dartmouth – up 8 spots – beat #30 Tulane 4-3; beat #39 Drake 4-3
#42 Oregon – up 4 spots – beat #52 Denver 4-3; won at Nebraska 6-1
#50 Rice – up 6 spots – beat #35 LSU 4-3; beat UT Arlington 4-0
#54 Michigan – up at least 26 spots – beat #45 Princeton 7-0; beat #60 Cornell 4-1
#55 South Carolina – up 4 spots – beat #44 Georgia Tech 5-2
#66 North Florida – up 5 spots – won at #60 Cornell 4-2; lost at #15 Columbia 6-1
#68 Purdue – was unranked – won at #31 Tulsa 4-3; beat #67 Wichita State 4-3
#74 Wisconsin – was unranked – beat #45 Princeton 4-3; beat Valparaiso 6-1
Free Fallin’:
#11 Georgia – down 5 spots – lost to #9 UCLA 6-1
#12 Illinois – down 5 spots – beat #25 Duke 4-3; lost to #7 North Carolina 4-0
#31 Tulsa – down 8 spots – lost to then unranked Purdue 4-3; beat #67 Wichita State 4-3
#35 LSU – down 5 spots – lost at #50 Rice 4-3
#44 Georgia Tech – down 5 spots – lost at #55 South Carolina 5-2
#45 Princeton – down 11 spots – lost at Wisconsin 4-3; lost to #54 Michigan 7-0; beat #62 Iowa 6-1
#57 UC Davis – down 4 spots – lost to Abilene Christian 4-3; beat #73 Pacific 4-2
#60 Cornell – down 13 spots – lost to #66 North Florida 4-2; lost to #54 Michigan 4-1; lost to #62 Iowa 4-2
#67 Wichita State – down 4 spots – lost to #68 Purdue 4-3; lost at #31 Tulsa 4-3
#75 Fresno State – down 9 spots – lost at Santa Clara 5-2; beat St. Mary’s (CA) 5-2
Notes:
- UNC Wilmington, Troy, and Clemson were the 3 teams to drop out this week
- Illinois beat a top 30 team on the road and loses to a top 10 on the road and gets dropped 5 spots?
- Oklahoma State beats a top 10 and a top 25 team with its only loss to #2 but is still down at #17 – should be in the top 10 in my opinion.
- Duke lost twice last weekend to fellow top 25 teams but only dropped 1 spot – nobody with a 1-4 record should be ranked in the top 25.

That's right! 7-0 and haven't lost a match. Suck it.
Ohio State sucks
Couple thoughts here:

I was very surprised to see Illinois drop that far. I think they'll end up in that 10-12 range this year. But if voters thought they were 7 last week, I'm not sure a top 25 road win and a top 10 road loss are enough to justify a 5 spot drop.

Also how about Northwestern's big weekend. They absolutely destroyed Notre Dame and Duke (on the road), maybe they deserve a little more love?

Ohio State picked up a solid win against Texas, and still has yet to drop a point on the year. Hard to believe there's no movement there.

Also very surprised about Duke, they got beat twice at home (making 4 home losses total), at a certain point something's gotta give there.
Agree with your notes at the bottom. No way Duke should be in Top 25!
