The post NTI women’s rankings are out and as expected Cal is the new #1 after winning its first-ever team national championship. The previous #1, Vanderbilt, fell 4 spots to #5 after suffering a quarterfinals loss to Ohio State with the Buckeyes themselves rising 10 spots from #16 to #6.
The individual rankings for both the women and men were released as well with several guys and gals entering for the first time with many previously unranked due to not playing in the fall.
Tulane’s Dominik Koepfer and Virginia’s Thai-Son Kwiatkowski stayed at #1 and #2 in the men’s singles rankings while Stanford’s Tom Fawcett rose from #9 to #3 after picking up wins over #6 Cameron Norrie (TCU), #13 Joao Monteiro (VT), #69 Freddy Gelbrich (SDSU), and #81 Alec Adamson (UCD).
Florida’s Gordon Watson and Diego Hidalgo took over the #1 spot in the men’s doubles rankings after beating #2 Hugo Dojas/Felipe Soares (Texas Tech) during the Kick-Off Weekend. The previous #1 Brett Clark/Robert Kelly (UNC) fell to #3 after losing on Sunday to Oklahoma’s previously unranked Andrew Harris/Alex Ghilea.
The following guys went from unranked to inside the top 50 with notable wins listed that helped get them ranked:
#12 Aleks Vukic (Illinois) – #7 Roberto Cid (USF), #14 Konrad Zieba (NW), #51 Q Monaghan (ND)
#19 Julian Lenz (Baylor) – #8 Arthur Rinderknech (aTm), #49 D Maasland (ORE), #80 G Brymer

#47 Leonard Stakhovsky (Penn St) – #50 Dovydas Sakinis (DART), #68 Adam Moundir (ODU)
A couple of January roster additions that earned their first career rankings are #122 Alex Rybakov (TCU) and #125 Petros Chrysochos (WF). Also Purdue’s Gergely Madarasz is up to #96 after seeing his first action in January after having to sit out last season to establish residency.

- Vanderbilt dropped 4 spots despite beating 3 top 15 teams with the 1 loss coming to a top 10 team – should have only fell to #2 in my opinion.
- Dartmouth dropped 10 spots despite going 1-1 with both results coming versus ranked opponents

Might be a surprise but I think Cotrone has pro potential. The way that he has improved each year is impressive. he reminds me a lot of Alex Sarkissian who has made himself into a formidable pro when nobody expected it.
Here is the UTR Top 25 – seems like a lot of guys with pro potential skipped college all together but of the guys below I'd give Mackie McDonald, Ryan Shane, Aleks Vukic, and Cameron Norrie the best shot at making it inside the top 150-200.

Name Rating
MACKENZIE MCDONALD 15.01
ANDREW HARRIS 14.79
THAI-SON KWIATKOWSKI 14.78
TOM FAWCETT 14.74
JULIAN LENZ 14.71
RYAN SHANE 14.6
RYOTARO MATSAMURA 14.59
ALEX RYBAKOV 14.55
MIKAEL TORPEGAARD 14.54
ARTHUR RINDERKNECH 14.53
CAMERON NORRIE 14.53
DOMINIK KOEPFER 14.52
AXEL ALVAREZ LLAMAS 14.48
HENRIK WIERSHOLM 14.47
DOMINIC COTRONE 14.43
ROBERTO CID 14.42
ANDRE GORANSSON 14.34
KARUE SELL 14.33
SKANDER MANSOURI 14.33
COLLIN ALTAMIRANO 14.29
ALEKS VUKIC 14.29
KONRAD ZIEBA 14.28
JOAO MONTEIRO 14.28
FELIPE RIOS 14.26
ALEXANDER RITSCHARD 14.25
Do you think the men's field, individual wise, is softer this year in terms of talent level at the top end? Pro contenders seem fewer this year. Not sure what UTR would show.
#29 Baylor women are about to face a scheduling nightmare going up against #3 Florida, #12 Miami, #5 Vandy, #16 A&M, #21 Ucla, #8 Michigan and #6 Ohio State. Then after Ksu & Kansas it's up against #11 Usc and #25 Northwestern. Yikes!
Farren left school to go play Futures and Boyd is in school but just not playing tennis.
Do you know what happened to Kalman Boyd and Connor Farren?
