The ITA announced the Men’s National Team Indoors All-Tournament team on Thursday with Virginia filling four of the six singles spots and two of three doubles teams. Ohio State junior Mikael Torpegaard was named the tournament MVP after going 4-0 in singles at No. 1 with wins over Oklahoma’s Andrew Harris, Oklahoma State’s Julian Cash, Wake Forest’s Petros Chrysochos, and Virginia’s Collin Altamirano. The #1 Florida Gators kept up their winning ways, after winning their seventh ITA National Team Indoors Championship, with a 4-2 win over #6 Oklahoma State. A key to the Cowgirls strategy is claiming the doubles point which they won with an upset on court No. 3. In singles on court No. 1, Viktoriya Lushkova retired halfway through her second set and Ingrid Neel continued her strong play from Indoors with a win on court No. 2 to give UF a 3-0 lead. Aliona Bolsova earned the biggest upset of the night giving OSU their first singles point on court No. 3. The USTA released its top 25 on Wednesday with both the Virginia men and Florida women unanimous No. 1s. Ohio State and Wake Forest were unanimous No. 2 and No. 3 on the men’s side while North Carolina and Cal were No. 4 and No. 5. The women’s top three stayed the same while Stanford and Georgia swapped spots at No. 4 and No. 5. Texas made the biggest jump on the men’s side rising five spots to No. 9 while Northwestern took the biggest plunge falling seven spots to No. 13. As I mentioned yesterday in my men’s recap this set of rankings is the first set of computerized team rankings after having a ranking committee make all the selections up until now. The computer ranks teams based off their four best wins with all losses also included in the equation. The teams that racked up a lot of wins with very few losses were rewarded while the ones that haven’t played much were penalized. If you team is lower than expected be patient; if your team is higher than expected don’t become overly confident. With each passing week more best wins are added to the equation so as that number increases the rankings...

Up until this point the rankings have been done by a ranking committee with each member able to use logic and reason when filling out a ballot but when the computers take over it’s strictly math.
