Alabama Holds Off ETSU; Baylor Sweeps Sherwood; MLK Invitational Wraps Up; Great Start to Aussie Open

Alabama missed out on last year’s NCAA Tournament by one spot so in the offseason men’s head coach George Husack overhauled the roster and brought in five newcomers. On Monday afternoon all five of those newcomers were in the lineup and played a pivotal roll in the Crimson Tide’s tight 4-2 win over East Tennessee State. Florida State welcomed in Florida Atlantic, South Alabama, Mercer, Troy, Florida A&M, and Georgia State for the FSU Invitational this weekend but the hosts couldn’t pull off the weekend sweep after Georgia State surprised them 4-2 in the championship match. The John Roddick era is officially underway at Central Florida and it’s off to a great start after the Knights upset No. 23 Texas Tech 4-3. The Red Raiders started off the day at the brand new Home of the USTA by blanking New Mexico 4-0 and then in the second half of the doubleheader against UCF they got off to a good start after capturing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Mueller’s Monarchs Roll Through Raleigh; Rain Washes Out Opening Day in Lake Nona; Freeman Memorial Underway; Plus Pro Circuit Update

Dominik Mueller made his head coaching debut on Friday afternoon in Raleigh and it was a successful one as Old Dominion defeated NC State 6-1. The Monarchs won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 then they won a slew of three-set singles matches with all but one going the distance. The dual was played indoors at NC State’s 4-court facility with matches at 1, 2, 3, and 4 singles going on first. It didn’t take long to have our first dual-match that was decided by the final court but that’s what happened on Thursday night in Tulsa inside The Case. Tulsa, which hosted last year’s NCAA Championships, jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the defending Missouri Valley Conference Champs Wichita State after rallying to take the doubles point and picking up straight set wins from Majed Kilani and Daniel Santos at No. 2 and No. 6.
