Texas picked up win #300 for head coach Michael Center with a hard fought 4-1 win over Texas Tech. The Red Raiders won the doubles point by winning tiebreaks at 2 and 3 but Texas was able to rally with singles wins from Soren Hess-Olesen, Adrien Berkowicz, Nick Naumann, and Clement Homs.

“I’m proud of the student-athletes I’ve had, not only this year but in the past, that have made contributions to our program while they were here and after their graduation,” Center said after Saturday’s win. “It has been very gratifying, and I’m looking forward to many more with this group.”
“Every match is so hard to win in this conference and at this time of year,” Center said. “We had some opportunities in doubles, but ended up losing two tiebreakers to put our backs against the wall. I know Texas Tech has a heck of a team in singles, but we played really well down the stretch and fought hard to get this win.”
“Clement is strong, both physically and mentally, particularly in the moment when you really need him to step up,” coach Michael Center said. “He is just a man out there right now. He is playing really tough. As he continues to play stronger, that makes our team stronger.”

“What a battle,” said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. “We played well in doubles, but Texas was really strong at No. 1 and No. 3. We were still in the match at No. 2 and No. 4. We gave ourselves a chance, but unfortunately Texas was too good today.”

In front of a monster crowd of just under 1000, TCU rallied after dropping the doubles point and came back to win 4-3. TCU really dominated in singles taking 5 opening sets and they managed to close out 4 in straight sets with Cameron Norrie, Arnau Dachs, Facundo Lugones, and Will Stein all getting wins. After the match had been clinched they did play the 2 remaining matches out and South Florida won them both with a 10 point tiebreak played in lieu of a 3rd set. Bravo to the coaches for letting them play it out!!!
Note: South Florida’s #1 doubles team fought off 8 match points before winning the doubles deciding point in a tiebreak.

“I couldn’t be more impressed and proud of the way our guys responded to the adversity of having a doubles point ripped out of our paws,” head coach David Roditi. “I give credit to the USF doubles team for that one. We had a choice and the guys responded the way any coach would ideally want them to respond. There were great performances by all our singles players and especially Cameron (Norrie), Facundo (Lugones) and Will Stein. Arnau (Dachs) could not have closed out the match any better. He was so professional and confident in the way he handled it.

Tulane has had some nice wins this year but today was the icing on the cake as the Green Wave crashed down on #20 Tulsa 4-3. The Golden Hurricane took the doubles point but Tulane came out strong in singles and took the opening set on 5 of 6 courts. The Green Wave would turn 5 of those 1st sets into 3 straight set wins with Alex Van Cott, Sebastian Rey, and Chi-Shan Jao winning at 3, 4, and 5. Tulsa would get a straight set win at #6 from Dylan McCloskey and Alejandro Espejo (the lone senior on Senior Day) would come back from a set down to win at #2 singles. With the match all square at 3 it would come down to a 3rd set at #1 singles to decide the winner. Tulane’s Dominik Koepfer would pull through and clinch the biggest win for the program since Hurricane Katrina (per the Tulane recap)

“Wow, what a great fight and full team effort by our boys,” Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. “There were lots of ups and downs throughout but they kept battling and believing and came up with a nice road win.”
“To get a top-20 road win against a conference rival really shows how hard these guys have worked and continued believing in the process,” Booras added. “We’ve pushed them hard after each loss this year and they’ve responded positively to the challenges each time. We’re still putting some pieces of the puzzle together, but it’s nice to see them reap some fruits of their labors today against a top program.
