The final round of qualies at Wimbledon was washed out on Thursday but play rocked on at Pro Circuit events across the globe. Before I dive into those Futures results I wanted to give congratulations to Florida State commit Alex Knaff and NC State commit Alexis Galarneau for picking up their first ATP points earlier in the week.

Knaff picked up his point on Wednesday with a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over #1671 Mason Recci at the $10K Havre, Belgium, F2 Futures (Clay). Knaff’s attempt at picking up another point came up short when he fell to former East Carolina #1 Joran Vliegen 6-2, 6-4.

Galarneau won his opening round match on Tuesday with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over #682 Greg Jones at the $25K Richmond, Canada, F3 Futures (Hard) before falling today to #356 Peter Polansky in the second round.

$25K Tulsa, OK, USA F21 (Hard) – 5 of the 8 quarterfinalists have college ties with the biggest surprise being Georgia’s Paul Oosterbaan. The 6 foot 7 inch rising junior picked up his first career ATP point yesterday and today he followed that up by defeating the No. 2 seed Sekou Bangoura in straight sets. Oosterbaan served for the first set up 5-3 but Bangoura broke from 15/40 and the set would eventually go to a tiebreak. Oosterbaan played from behind in the tiebreak but he took his first lead by winning both points on Bangoura’s serve to go up 6-5 and then he won the next point on his serve to take it 7-6(5). Oosterbaan broke Bangoura to start the second set and then he held fairly comfortably up until his 5-4 service game. Bangoura had three break point opportunities but Oosterbaan fought each off and held in a three-deuce game to get the win 7-6(5), 6-4.

Recent Tulane graduate Dominik Koepfer earned his first-ever spot in a Futures quarterfinal with a come from behind three-set win over recent Illinois graduate Jared Hiltzik. Hiltzik took the first set 6-3 before Koepfer got the second 6-3. Koepfer broke Hiltzik to start the third set in a four-deuce game but Hiltzik put it back on serve by breaking from 30/40 to even it at 2-2. Koepfer broke back from 15/40 and then held for 4-2 but Hiltzik took the next three games by holding at love, breaking from 15/40, and then holding in a two-deuce game for 5-4. After Koepfer held from 40/15 he went up 15/40 but Hiltzik fought off both of those break points and one more to get the hold for 6-5. Koepfer held at love to send it a to a tiebreak and then he took the tiebreak 7-4.
