State of the Union – College Tennis Today

My main priority over the last 4 months was to keep the content up to date so I didn’t do much with the design or layout.  Now that we’ve hit the off-season I’ve been trying to spiff up the site a bit. This was first stab at doing a blog so most of the layout and features I copied from other sites but other features I’ve had to research to figure out how they work. I was just able to figure out how to make a scrolling text box which I thought was kind of neat and I’ve recently learned how to make a picture in picture page (iframe) where you can have as many different windows within a page as you want (see scoreboard pic on...

Season Ending UTR Top 10s (All Divisions)

Now that we’re officially in the college tennis off-season I thought I’d take another look back at the year-end singles rankings across all divisions.  The one way to compare the rankings across divisions is to use each player’s season ending Universal Tennis Rating so what I did is I pulled the UTR Top 10 from each division then at the bottom I have them combined into one list.  While Division 1 is by far the deepest you can see there are good players throughout all divisions.UTR Top 100 Range:Division 1: 13.90-15.23 (447 above 13.00, 82 above 14.00, 4 above 15.00)Division 2: 12.09-14.26 (18 above 13.00)Division 3: 11.74-13.07 (2...

Noah Rubin Turns Pro

After Wake Forest signed Dennis Uspensky this past week it seemed like the writing was on the wall and today it was confirmed that Noah Rubin has left Wake Forest and turned pro. Rubin came to Wake Forest when many thought he wouldn’t after winning the 2014 Wimbledon Junior Championships so you’ve got to give him credit for at least coming and experiencing college tennis for one year. After much contemplation I have decided to turn pro. It’s been an unforgettable year at WF due to the amazing people I was surrounded by. Noah Rubin (@Noahrubin33) June 6, 2015I am nervous yet excited for the journey I am about to embark on, but with the support...

Kickoff Weekend Draft Is Complete

Every year during the draft there are always a few surprises and this year it was everybody jumping on the Columbia regional.  The other surprise was #49 Oregon, #51 San Francisco, and #62 UTSA being #2 seeds. Usually the #2 seeds are top 30 teams but this year it didn’t work out that way.  Many of the higher ranked teams decided to be a #3 or #4 seed in what they considered to be a more winnable regional 3 of the first 5 picks picked Columbia with Virginia Tech, Stanford, and Minnesota all jumping at the chance to head to the NYC to face a Columbia team that will be doing some rebuilding though not as much as others. Virginia Tech wasn’t...

Kickoff Weekend Draft – 7 Opt-Out in Advance

We’re now 2 days away from the ITA National Indoor Kickoff Weekend Draft and so far we’ve seen 7 schools take a pass with many probably planning on playing other matches that weekend. The 7 that have taken a pass on the draft are #35 Princeton, #42 Dartmouth, #48 Cornell, #55 Penn State, #56 Texas A&M Corpus Christi, #64 Washington, and #66 Clemson. Many of these schools will likely schedule matches for that same weekend but instead of being a decent sized underdog at a National Indoor Regional they can probably bring someone in or go somewhere to play a team on a more level playing field.Last year Dartmouth and Cornell played Denver and Indiana...

Top 20 – Who Is Coming Back & Who Is Departing (Part 3)

I looked over 1-10 and 11-15 a few days ago so today I’ll look at the teams that finished the year ranked 16-20.The new recruits section is from tennisrecruiting.net and from school releases so its possible some of those guys may not end up where they are currently showing. Several teams will probably have some guys coming in from outside the U.S. so we probably won’t know any names until the schools put out a release or we see the name on the roster in August or January. BC=Blue Chip, 5*=5 star, etc.I’m sure we’ll also see some guys transfer as we do every year. We probably won’t know those until they show up on a new roster in...
