13 players with college ties won pro events last week with another 15 finishing as runner-up. Wil Spencer (Georgia ’12) won his third career Futures singles title with a straight set win over Illinois junior Aron Hiltzik at the $25K USA F31 Futures in Houston. Spencer broke Hiltzik from 15/40 to take the first set 6-4 and then after falling behind 3-1 in the second Spencer reeled off five straight games to close it out 6-4, 6-3 in 1 hour and 18 minutes. The first of two weekends of ITA Regional Championship action concluded on Tuesday. Wake Forest’s Skander Mansouri swept singles and doubles (w Christian Seraphim) titles at the Carolina Regional so Wake Forest will now have those two plus Petros Chrysochos entered in the last big tournament of the fall. Virginia only had one player entered in the ITA Atlantic Regional but one was all it needed because senior JC Aragone won the singles title with a straight set win over RIchmond’s Jacob Dunbar. Five ITA Regional Championships finished up on Monday with three more set to wrap up on Tuesday. Two of the four women’s doubles champions were No. 1 seeds while Cal’s Andre Goransson was the only top singles seed to win so far. When I first started this blog at the end of January 2015 I thought I’d just make the occasional blog post about college tennis and maybe a few would read it. Fast forward to October 2016 and my site has logged over 850,000 page views so I decided it was time to create a new site that looked better and functioned better. The google blogger platform isn’t bad at all but it has its limitations which is why I started looking to do something else.
