Wake Forest rising sophomore Borna Gojo is one match away from qualifying for the main draw at the ATP 250 Winston-Salem Open after he picked up his first-ever top 100 win on Saturday. Gojo, who entered the weekend with an ATP ranking of 808, held off Belgium’s Ruben Bemelmans (ATP #100) 7-6(3), 3-6, 7-6(6) in 2 hours and 29 minutes. Gojo fell behind 2-0 in the opening set before winning three straight and he’d eventually take the set in a tiebreak. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) announced the hiring of Dann Nelson as the Vaqueros new men’s tennis coach. Nelson comes to Edinburg after spending the last 11 seasons in Carbondale as head coach of Southern Illinois. Nelson led SIU to a share of the regular season conference championship last season despite the program spending most of the season on the chopping block due to the state of Illinois’s budget woes. SIU got a one-year reprieve and will be back this fall but Nelson probably made a wise decision to secure his future for many years to come.Welcome to the RGV coach Nelson! Norfolk State Athletics Director Marty Miller announced the hiring of Darryl Cummings as the Spartans new men’s and women’s head coach. Cummings was most recently the men’s and women’s coach at D3’s Virginia Wesleyan during the 2014 and 2015 seasons but he’s most known for his 20 years at Old Dominion from 1992-2011. Adam Steinberg Chosen As Arizona State’s New Coach, Zhao Says Bye To the Farm, Pro Circuit Update

On May 4th it was announced that Arizona State was bringing back its men’s tennis program and today came the announcement that Adam Steinberg was leaving Michigan to become the Sun Devils new head coach. Steinberg, who had coached Michigan for the last two years and Pepperdine the 12 prior including the 2006 NCAA Championship team, will have a full year to build the program from scratch.
