Former Virginia Tech Hokie Sebastien Jacques is making his way across the country, by foot, after not being able to walk across a room just a few years ago. Jacques played at Virginia Tech from 2007 to 2010 but during his senior year he had to quit playing due to a lack of energy. After graduating with a degree in marketing he returned home to Magog, Canada, and after seeing several doctor he was eventually diagnosed with a pineal cystic tumor in his brain which was the cause of the energy drain. It was senior day in Raleigh but unfortunately for the host Wolfpack they only had five healthy players and their opponent happened to be No. 1 Wake Forest. Wake took the doubles point after only dropping three games and then the Deacs won five of six matches in singles with NC State freshman Alexis Galarneau salvaging the day for the Pack with a win over Borna Gojo at No. 2. Cal came into Friday evenings match against No. 23 Oregon with a perfect 33-0 record all-time against the Ducks but the streak nearly came to an end. Cal picked up the all-important doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 but Oregon came back in singles and picked up three quick straight set wins from Akihiro Tanaka, Cormac Clissold, and Ty Gentry to go in front 3-1. Cal came back to tie it up with Andre Goransson and Filip Bergevi each winning in straight sets so the match would be decided in a third set at No. 1 between a pair of Frenchmen. Thursday was a busy day in the SEC with eight teams in action since the conference is playing on Thursday and Saturday this week. Three of the four matches saw the road team pick up a win while No. 17 Kentucky was the only team to win at home. TCU finished off its West Coast trip with another win while just down the road UCLA knocked off Duke. South Carolina rallied from a 3-1 deficit on the road to defeat Arkansas 4-3. South Carolina took the doubles point when its No. 3 team of Gabriel Friedrich and Andrew Schafer broke for 6-5 and then Schafer held on the no-ad point to clinch it 7-5. This has been a season of firsts for Cornell with the Big Red achieving a program high ranking of No. 18 a few weeks ago and then today they picked up their first ever top 10 win after going into Norman and defeating Oklahoma 4-3. The day didn’t start off very promising for Cornell because Oklahoma rolled through the doubles point picking up a 6-2 win at No. 2 and a 6-0 win at No. 3. The teams split first sets in singles and three of the six would finish in straight sets.
