Former Virginia Tech Hokie Sebastien Jacques is making his way across the country, by foot, after not being able to walk across a room just a few years ago. Jacques played at Virginia Tech from 2007 to 2010 but during his senior year he had to quit playing due to a lack of energy. After graduating with a degree in marketing he returned home to Magog, Canada, and after seeing several doctor he was eventually diagnosed with a pineal cystic tumor in his brain which was the cause of the energy drain. Georgia came into Saturday’s match at Texas A&M with an undefeated conference record but a few hours later they’d be undefeated no more as Texas A&M played a tremendous match and came away with the win and the top seed in the SEC Tournament. The ITA released its latest team, singles, and doubles rankings today with the Wake Forest men and Florida women remaining in the top spots. In the men’s team rankings Stanford made the biggest jump inside the top 25 with the Cardinal coming up four spots to No. 15 after defeating USC last week. Notre Dame made the biggest overall leap in the top 50 with the Irish rising 11 spots after winning at Florida State. In the women’s top 25, Mississippi State was the only team to move more than two spots with the Bulldogs falling four spots to No. 20 after losses to Florida and South Carolina. Wake Forest and Texas had played a lot of close matches over the past three years (four 4-3 matches) but on Saturday afternoon in Austin there wouldn’t be any suspense as the third ranked Demon Deacons would run over the eighth ranked Longhorns 4-0. It’s not uncommon for a No. 2 seed to knock out a host during the Kick-Off Weekend but when the No. 2 seed is Utah State and the No. 1 is TCU the idea of Utah State pulling it off was something that few outside of Logan could have ever imagined. TCU, which finished last year ranked 57 spots higher than Utah State, came into the match riding a 31-match home court winning streak while Utah State was only participating in a Kick-Off Weekend regional for the second time in school history.
