Pro Circuit Recap – Kristie Ahn, Roberto Cid, & Joao Monteiro Win Singles Titles

Kristie Ahn won her second singles title of the year, seventh career, after defeating two-time NCAA singles champion Danielle Collins in the final of the $80K RBC Pro Challenge in Tyler, Texas. The match started off with three consecutive breaks until Ahn held for 3-1. The rest of the opening set was all holds, including a six-deuce hold by Ahn for 5-3, as Ahn would go on to take it 6-4. Ahn went up an early break in the second set but Collins back on serve at 4-4. However Ahn would break back at love for 5-4 and then go on to serve it out in a one-deuce game to claim the title with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Ahn earned $12,000 and picked up 115 WTA ranking points...

Pro Circuit Recap – Cameron Norrie Wins Second Consecutive Challenger; Andrew Harris Feeling at Home in Australia; Joao Monteiro Perfect in Portugal

Cameron Norrie ran his winning streak to 10 after winning a second straight $100K Challenger with this one coming in Stockton, California. Norrie only dropped four games in his finals win over Darian King which earned the former TCU star a $14,400 paycheck plus 90 ATP ranking points. Norrie’s biggest comeback of the week came against Brydan Klein in the second round. Norrie was down a set and a break at 6-4, 4-3 but he managed to take the second set in a tiebreak and then he pulled away in the third set. World University Games Into Medal Rounds; Talaba Sweeps Singles/Doubles in Romania; Monteiro Wins Again; Puetz Takes Switzerland

The World University Games in Taiwan are nearing its conclusion with the doubles gold medal match taking place late Sunday/early Monday while singles wraps up tomorrow. Great Britain’s Jack Findel-Hawkins (North Florida ’17) and Luke Johnson (Clemson ’16) will play in the doubles gold medal match against Russia’s Richard Muzaev and Aslan Karatsev with the match scheduled for no sooner than 2:30 a.m. eastern. Ohio State rising sophomore JJ Wolf was a set away from winning the 2017 USTA Boys 18 National Championship in Kalamazoo but Patrick Kypson fought back to win the fourth and fifth sets to come away with the title and US Open main draw wild card. Kypson had the upper-hand for most of the first set with the 17-year old from Greenville (NC) holding serve rather quickly while Wolf had to work for his holds. Ohio State rising sophomore JJ Wolf is one win away from earning a main draw wild card into the US Open after he defeated Cornell commit Alafia Ayeni 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals of the USTA Boys 18 National Championship in Kalamazoo. Wolf’s previous best singles performance at the Zoo was two years ago when he made it to the semifinals of the Boys 16 before falling to Patrick Kypson who then went on to win the title the next day.
