It was a bit of a slow week in women’s college tennis, with a few top teams not even playing this week. The biggest upset of the week went to the USC Trojans, who hosted No.4 Michigan and ran off with a 5-2 win. Teams in the top 20 were busy and Auburn, the No. 8 team in the country, was the big winner of the week with its title at the Blue Gray Classic. The Tigers had the upset of the week downing No. 5 Texas Tech 4-2 in the championship match. No. 18 Cal also had a big win over No. 9 UCLA while No. 2 Ohio State had a huge weekend shutting out Miami (FL) and No. 10 Baylor. The #1 Florida Gators kept up their winning ways, after winning their seventh ITA National Team Indoors Championship, with a 4-2 win over #6 Oklahoma State. A key to the Cowgirls strategy is claiming the doubles point which they won with an upset on court No. 3. In singles on court No. 1, Viktoriya Lushkova retired halfway through her second set and Ingrid Neel continued her strong play from Indoors with a win on court No. 2 to give UF a 3-0 lead. Aliona Bolsova earned the biggest upset of the night giving OSU their first singles point on court No. 3. Southern Illinois women’s head coach Audra Anderson was promoted to the Director of Tennis and will now assume the role as the new men’s head coach after the departure of Dann Nelson to UTRGV. Anderson has gone 140-83 (.627) in nine seasons at SIU which gives her the best winning percentage in school history. Jonny Rigby, who graduated this past May, will serve as a graduate assistant for a program that is now going year-to-year due to the financial woes in the state of Illinois. Ohio State Women Marking Their Own Territory

By Joey DillonMarch 1st may have been just a normal day for the ITA rankings to be released, but for the Ohio State women’s team, it meant another step in the journey to becoming a powerhouse. The Buckeye ladies rose to No.1 in the country for the first time in program history, as well as having the No.1 singles player and No.4 doubles team in the country, also program-bests.
