Pro Circuit Recap – Samantha Murray Sweeps Singles/Doubles in GB; Christian/Santamaria Win Doubles in Macon; Reyes-Varela/Rola Roll in Lima

Northwestern graduate Samantha Murray was the big winner last week after sweeping singles and doubles titles at the ITF $15K in Wirral, Great Britain. Murray only dropped one set in singles and cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win in the final over Eden Silva. Murray’s toughest match came in the semifinals against her doubles partner Maia Lumsden when she came back from a 3-6, 3-4* deficit to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The singles title was the second of Murray’s career and first since 2012. Murray and Lumsden only dropped one set in the doubles draw and they won the doubles title with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Alicia Barnett and Laura Sainsbury. Pro Circuit Recap & College ATP Rankings

John Peers (Baylor ’11) was the big winner this past weekend after he and his doubles partner Henri Kontinen won their first ATP Masters 1000 event at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris. Peers, who spent three years at Middle Tennessee State before transfering to Baylor for his senior year, and Kontinen defeated the ATP No. 1 team of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. It was the fourth title this year for the pairing and overall it was Peers’s 23rd career title. It took about a month but Monmouth Athletic Director Marilyn McNeil announced the hiring of Alex Kasarov as the Hawks new men’s head coach. Kasarov was the men’s assistant coach at Davidson for the last two season and replaces Kyle Bailey who departed after a few months to become the new men’s assistant at South Carolina. Hofstra Director of Atheltics Jeffrey Hathaway announced the hiring of Jason Pasion as the Pride’s new men’s and women’s head coach. Pasion had a successful two-year stint at D2’s NYIT where he won over 70 percent of his matches and led both the men’s and women’s program to deep runs at...
