Oliver Frank Rolls Through USC to Win SoCal Intercollegiates; Antonioni Fasano Wins Big Ten Singles Championship; Master’U Team Announced

The 61st Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships came to a close on Monday with Azusa Pacific’s Oliver Frank claiming the singles title after a straight set win over USC’s Brandon Holt. The 32-player singles draw was comprised of 29 players from D1 schools and 3 from D2 schools which made Frank’s run to the title that much more unlikely. Frank started off the tournament with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 win over UC Davis’s David Goulak and then he came from behind to defeat USC’s Jake DeVine 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. National Fall Championship Field is Complete; APU’s Oliver Frank Wins a Pair at the SoCal Intercollegiates; Michigan’s Brown & Crocker Win Big Ten Dubs Championship

The majority of the field for the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships was released on Thursday but on Friday the field was completed with the addition of a handful of wild cards and a few last minute at-large selections. Baylor sophomore Bjoern Petersen was awarded an Oracle Wild Card into the singles draw which wasn’t too surprising due to Oracle’s Mark Hurd being a Baylor graduate. Shibahara and Matsumura Claim Oracle Masters; Frank, Gbaguidi, Cox/Konfederak, Bogoliy/Willing Win Oracle Cup

It was a day for the 2s at the Oracle events with both No. 2 seeds winning the singles titles as the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu and a player from a Division 2 school winning the Oracle Cup Men’s Singles Championship and Women’s Doubles Championship. UCLA freshman and No. 2 seed Ena Shibahara ran her collegiate record to 15-1 with a tough three-set win over Pepperdine sophomore and top seed Luisa Stefani. The pivotal point of the match came late in the third set when Shibahara broke Stefani’s 5-5 service game on the no-ad (40/40) point.
