The College MatchDay series wrapped up its Lake Nona schedule on Tuesday evening with a top two showdown between No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Ohio State. Florida’s No. 3 doubles team of Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcock went down an early break at 2-1 but they broke back from 30/40 and held for 3-2. The Sunday afternoon men’s schedule was packed to the brim with three top 25 teams facing each other plus several other ranked teams would be tested against stiff competition. Last season Wake Forest went to Stillwater in late January and got beat so when they made the return trip on Sunday they had a pretty good idea of what was in store. Wake Forest jumped out to the early 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 and then less than an hour later the lead would grow even more. The opening day of the Women’s National Team Indoor Championships is in the books with seven of the top eight seeds advancing to the quarterfinals. There were some blowouts and some close ones though none of them came down to the deciding court with 4-0 and 4-1 scores accounting for six of the eight results with the other two being 4-2. We’ll start with the one seeding upset of the day which took place at the Tennis and Fitness Center in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. The weather in Greater St. Louis has been extremely hot and humid this week but that hasn’t slowed down 2013 Rice graduate Jonathan Chang as he has blazed his way into the quarterfinals at the $25K Godfrey, Illinois, USA F24 Futures. Chang came into this week’s Futures event having won just one main draw match but he’s managed to come through qualies and knock off a pair off a pair of guys that spent most of last year in the ITA top 10. Every year there are a handful of teams that play their way into the NCAA Tournament and after Baylor’s performance today we can add another team to that list. Baylor came in to today’s match against Oklahoma State firmly on the bubble and most likely needed a win to earn its spot in the NCAAs.Due to the inclement weather the match was moved indoors and since there was a log-jam of matches to be played they played singles first.
