Earlier today the ITA released its first team and individual rankings of the 2016 season. The individual rankings are based off the computer so therefore they had several big shakeups from the initial rankings which were based solely off last season’s rankings with the seniors removed.I did my own Top 20 and took into account roster additions and subtractions from last season while the first 6 team rankings are done by the ITA’s National Ranking Committee with each voter probably knowledgeable on their region but not much outside it. Virginia and Vanderbilt finished atop the men’s and women’s rankings after each won the NCAA National Championship. Oklahoma finished #2 after holding down the top spot virtually the entire season.TCU and Illinois swapped spots at 4 and 6 after the Illini went out in the Round of 16 while TCU made it all the way to the semifinals. Columbia and South Florida moved into the top 16 which will give them both a chance to host a regional for next year’s National Team Indoors (assuming they put in a bid and it meets the qualifications). Oklahoma stays at #1 in the ITA Men’s rankings for the 8th week in a row and for the 9th time in the last 10 weeks.The top 2 (UNC/USC) stays the same in the women’s rankings but Cal moves up from 4 to 3, Vanderbilt moves up from 9 to 4, and Florida falls from 3 to 5. . Below I’ll breakdown the Top 10 on the men’s side looking at the 9 best wins that were used in the rankings this week along with other quality ranked wins.
