Lots of Coaching Changes – Matt Lucas To North Florida, Houston Barrick To Richmond, Jason Potthoff to Milwaukee

The calendar has turned to August which means several schools will be in session shortly so most of the current coaching openings should get filled sooner rather than later. Over the last week there have been three head coaching hires along with several assistant coaching hires. University of North Florida Director of Athletics Lee Moon announced the hiring of Matt Lucas as the Ospreys new men’s head coach. Lucas comes to Jacksonville after serving as the associate head coach at Buffalo last season and will replace Mark Finnegan who departed after four seasons to become the men’s assistant coach at Auburn. The opening round of singles at Wimbledon went about as good as expected with players with college ties going 4-2. John Isner, Steve Johnson, and Jennifer Brady won in straight sets while Kevin Anderson came back from a set down to knock out the No. 31 seed Fernando Verdasco in four sets. Cameron Norrie made his Grand Slam debut but the No. 12 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga knocked him out in just 1 hour and 23 minutes. ITA Regional Wrap Up

The first of two weekends of ITA Regional Championship action concluded on Tuesday. Wake Forest’s Skander Mansouri swept singles and doubles (w Christian Seraphim) titles at the Carolina Regional so Wake Forest will now have those two plus Petros Chrysochos entered in the last big tournament of the fall. Virginia only had one player entered in the ITA Atlantic Regional but one was all it needed because senior JC Aragone won the  singles title with a straight set win over RIchmond’s Jacob Dunbar.
