A day after USC lost a tough one at Stanford it rebounded and posted a 4-0 shutout over No. 12 Cal. USC’s No. 3 team of Rob Bellamy and Jack Jaede broke for a 4-3 lead and they’d close it out a few games later for a 6-4 win. Cal picked up a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles after Andre Goransson and Billy Griffith came back from a break down to win the final three games. The US Open National Playoff got underway today in New Haven with three of the four men’s seeds and two of the four women’s seeds advancing to the quarterfinals. The men’s third seed Eric Quigley (Kentucky ’12) was knocked off by UCLA senior Gage Brymer in two tiebreak sets while both the second and fourth seeds, Evan King and Jose Statham, came back from a set down to win in three sets. Nelson to UTRGV, Camper to Chattanooga, Assistant Hires, Arizona State’s First Signee, Decatur Futures Results

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) announced the hiring of Dann Nelson as the Vaqueros new men’s tennis coach. Nelson comes to Edinburg after spending the last 11 seasons in Carbondale as head coach of Southern Illinois. Nelson led SIU to a share of the regular season conference championship last season despite the program spending most of the season on the chopping block due to the state of Illinois’s budget woes. SIU got a one-year reprieve and will be back this fall but Nelson probably made a wise decision to secure his future for many years to come.Welcome to the RGV coach Nelson!
