Northwest (Seattle, WA) –  15 of the top 16 seeds advanced to the Round of 32 with the lone upset coming when Gonzaga’s Jordan Smith knocked off the #5 seed Pacific’s Miguel Diaz 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. There were 4 guys seeded in the 17-32 bucket that went out but none would be classified as UTR upset. If you wondering why there are a bunch of #5, #9, and #17 seeds it’s because they lump in 5-8, 9-16, and 17-32 together.  There will be 3 intriguing Cal versus Stanford matches on Saturday with Kumar/Nishimura possibly the best.
