The weekend is here and while there aren’t as many high profile matches as in past weeks there is still plenty of quality tennis to be played.
SEC conference play gets underway this weekend with a big match taking place on Sunday in College Station between #8 Texas A&M and #30 Florida. These two teams were selected as the preseason #2 and #3 by the SEC coaches so it’ll be a chance for one of them to get a leg up on the other. Of course before Florida gets a crack at A&M it’ll have to take care of business in Baton Rouge on Friday night against #32 LSU. The Bayou Bengals have been known to give higher ranked teams some trouble at home so we’ll see if that’s the case tonight. Texas A&M actually opens up its weekend on the road at #66 Auburn though I’m not expecting that one to be too close.

There’s a good one on the slate for Friday evening in Lexington as #22 Kentucky hosts #27 Arkansas. The Hogs are coming off a huge 5-2 win at Oklahoma while Kentucky took it to Indiana last weekend.

Wake Forest will be playing a pair of top 40 teams at home this weekend, #34 Georgia Tech and #40 NC State, but it’ll be doing so without its top two singles players. Both Skander Mansouri and Petros Chrysochos are playing in the Davis Cup this weekend for their respective countries so the rest of team will have to step up its game or it could be a tough weekend for the Deacs.
It’ll be a huge weekend in Des Moines for #36 Drake as the Bulldogs host two top 75 teams, #33 Iowa and #65 Cornell, plus another Big Ten school, Michigan State. I’ll actually be making my way north to Des Moines around noon so plan on getting plenty of updates throughout the weekend from each of these three matches.
The big match on Saturday will take place in Tampa as #17 South Florida hosts #3 TCU. The proud new papa, David Roditi, who just welcomed the second addition to his family will have to find the strength to guide his team in another big road match.  South Florida played without its #2 singles player, Dominic Cotrone, last weekend so it’ll need him healthy and in the singles lineup to have a legitimate chance in this one.
Oklahoma welcomes in #4 Ohio State to Norman on Sunday in a match that will be televised by Fox College Sports and streamed online through the Fox Sports Go app. Oklahoma ended Ohio State’s NCAA record 200-match home winning streak last year so you know the Buckeyes will have revenge on its mind in this one.

The Battle of the Commonwealth will take place Sunday evening in Blacksburg as #53 Virginia Tech looks to jumpstart its season against #2.

There is also a huge matchup in the American as #35 Tulane hosts #23 Memphis.
