George Washington Director of Athletics Patrick Nero announced the hiring of David Macpherson as the Colonials new men’s tennis coach. Macpherson had been the Bryan Brothers coach since 2005 after having a successful pro career that lasted almost 20 years. Macpherson replaces Greg Munoz who resigned in the middle of his 10th season to become the Tennis Director at the Jakarta Tennis Academy in Indonesia. Torrie Browning, who recently became the women’s head coach at GW, served as the interim coach and guided the team to a third straight conference title.

Nick Meister (UCLA ’12) and Eric Quigley (Kentucky ’12) earned a main draw wild card into the US Open Men’s Doubles draw after a tough 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10) win over Andrei Daescu (Oklahoma ’10) and Costin Paval (Oklahoma ’13) in the finals of the US Open National Playoff. It’ll be the first Grand Slam appearance for both Meister and Quigley with Quigley and Keri Wong also the top seed in the USONP Mixed Doubles draw (won opener today 6-3, 6-3).

The US Open qualifying draw concluded its first round today with former college players going 4-5. Noah Rubin only needed 10 minutes to win his match when Yan Bai retired after just three games. 8 guys and 2 girls are in second round action tomorrow.

Other Coaching News:

Texas A&M promoted Kevin O’Shea to men’s assistant coach after he had been a volunteer assistant for the last four years and the Director of Tennis Operations for the six years prior. O’Shea replaces ITA Hall of Famer Bob McKinley who retired a few weeks ago after spending the last four seasons as the assistant coach.

Taylor Vaughn, who was the men’s assistant at Ole Miss for the last two years, is back at his alma mater UNC Wilmington as a men’s assistant.

Roman Trkulja, who graduated from Penn State this year, was announced as the new graduate assistant at Illinois State.

Wake Forest released its men’s schedule while Middle Tennessee State (men/women) and Ole Miss (men/women) released both it’s men’s and women’s schedules.
