The latest USTA Top 25 is out with both the Virginia men and Florida women remaining at No. 1. Surprisingly, Florida is no longer a unanimous No. 1 despite having wins over everyone else in the top 10 except for California and Georgia Tech which it hasn’t played. North Carolina is only two votes behind Florida at No. 2 while Ohio State holds firm at No. 3. Georgia moved up two spots to No. 4 after the win at Florida last Friday and Stanford drops one spot to No. 5.

The Wake Forest men moved up one spot to No. 2 after a win over Georgia coupled with Ohio State losing twice which dropped the Buckeyes one spot to No. 3. North Carolina remains at No. 4 and Texas moves up two spots to No. 5 after defeating Ohio State.

Texas A&M was the biggest upward mover on the men’s side coming up four spots to No. 10. The Aggies extended their winning streak to 11 with a win over Ohio State on Sunday. Tulane was the only team to fall out after losing to Oregon in the finals of the San Diego Spring Break Tournament while South Carolina entered at No. 25 after picking up road wins at Arkansas and Ole Miss. The only team to drop more than two spots was Oklahoma who dropped three and fell to No. 12 after going 1-2 in Indian Wells with a 4-3 win over Tulsa and losses to USC and Cal.

Texas A&M was also the biggest upward mover on the women’s side by going from unranked to a tie for No. 19. The Aggies snapped their four match losing streak with a weekend sweep over Auburn and Alabama. Mississippi State shot up six spots to a tie for No. 19 after convincing wins over Arkansas and Missouri. Auburn took the biggest tumble with losses to Texas A&M and LSU knocking them down eight spots to No. 16. USC wasn’t too far behind with the Trojans falling six spots to No. 25 after losing to Baylor and Oregon.

Ole Miss and Tennessee dropped out of the top 25 while Texas A&M and LSU entered. Tennessee dropped both of its matches last weekend against South Carolina and Florida while Ole Miss defeated Missouri but fell to Arkansas. As I mentioned above Texas A&M and LSU both beat Auburn.

USTA Poll Information: there are eight college tennis “experts” on the voting panel, including yours truly, and each of us ranked 25 teams from numbers 1 to 25, with the first-place team receiving 25 points and the last-place team receiving one. When voting we were to consider strength of schedule, Top 25 wins/losses, road wins/losses and personnel adjustments for each program while also basing our vote on performance, not reputation or preseason speculation. For control, the highest and lowest outlying ranking for each team on the ballot was removed. Therefore, the maximum number of points a team can receive is 150. First-place votes were not tallied.

My ballot can be viewed at this link as you can see I was higher on both Baylor and Texas A&M than the rest of my fellow voters plus I had Oregon ranked while the others did not.
