The Pepperdine women are more accustomed to being ranked inside the 10 and that’s most likely where they’ll be come Tuesday because the Waves picked up their second top 10 victory of the week with a 5-2 win over #8/#6 Texas in Austin. The Waves won the doubles point in dominating fashion with a 6-1 win at No. 2 and a 6-2 win at No. 3. In singles each team claimed three opening sets and Pepperdine would convert each of its to set leads to straight set wins. Dzina Milovanovic made it 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 and Ashley Lahey upped the lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1.
Texas trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with straight set wins from Anna Turati and Petra Granic at No. 2 and No. 3 but Daria Kuczer put the Waves over the top with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5.

Baylor and USC advanced to the finals of the BNP Paribas Collegiate Challenge in Indian Wells with 4-0 wins. Baylor won an all-Bears battle over Cal by claiming the doubles point and adding straight set wins in singles from Matias Soto, Adrian Boitan, and Constantin Frantzen. The other three matches, which went unfinished, were in the third set.
USC trounced Pac-12 rival Arizona State with the Trojans winning all but one set in singles. Brandon Holt, Daniel Cukierman, and Jake Sands got the wins for USC at 1, 2, and 6 while Laurens Verboven had three match points at 6-2, *5-4 (40/15) though his match would go unfinished.

#43 Ole Miss improved to 10-8 after winning its second 4-3 match of the weekend with a win over #18 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide jumped out to a 3-0 lead after taking the doubles point and getting a 6-0, 6-0 win from Jeremy Gschwendtner at No. 6 and a 6-2, 6-2 win from Zhe Zhou at No. 5. The Rebels would get on the board with a 6-1, 6-2 win by Karlo Kranic at No. 4 and Tim Sandkaulen would make it 3-2 with a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 1. Both of the remaining matches went three sets and Ole Miss would pull both of them out with Fabian Fallert winning 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 and Filip Kraljevic winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 2.
“Full credit goes to Ole Miss,” said Alabama head coach George Husack. “They competed really well, and I think it was clear in a couple of areas in doubles and singles that we need to execute better. What we take out of this is how we’re going to respond and how we respond will define us as a team. This loss doesn’t define the team, we just have to keep building and get better.”

In the match against LSU the Tigers won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead but Texas A&M won at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 singles with Barnaby Smith clinching at 4-2 with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4.

“LSU is a much improved team this year and as I predicted we were in for a fight from the beginning,” Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “I thought they jumped on us at one and two doubles and we just couldn’t recover so give all the credit to them in the doubles. Our guys fought back winning those first sets to turn the tide and in the top three positions we were able to win straight set matches which changed the momentum back in our favor. As in so many of these matches, the fourth point is very elusive to attain and the third sets in the remaining matches were a roller coaster ride. Proud of Noah [Schachter] and Barney [Smith] for staying tough late in the third sets today. It was a very impressive performance from both of them, they knew we needed that fourth point and they were both able to get wins. Noah saved six match points to secure his third set tiebreaker win.”

We feel like we maybe left one out there, co-head coach Chris Brandi said. Thats probably one of the best teams in the SEC and the country, and we were right there at the end. Weve now played three of the top four teams in the SEC and it came down to the end in them, and those are the kind of matches we want to be in. We need to take it up a notch, but were knocking on the door and competing and think this group will make it happen.

Cal Poly won its third match in a row with a 5-2 win at home over #50 Utah. The Mustangs won a close doubles point and then increased their lead to 3-1 with straight set wins from Antoine Noel and Alex Stater at No. 2 and No. 4 while Utah’s Dan Little won in straight sets at No. 1. Cal Poly senior Dominic Bechard clinched at No. 5 with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 win while the other two matches would be played out with each team winning one.
“He’s more confident in all aspects of his game because he knows he has more tools he can use,” Cal Poly head coach Nick Carless said of Noel’s recent play. “He’s a dream to coach and a great guy to have on the team because he’s one of our leaders and I’m happy to see he is having individual success.”
“We’re playing better doubles than we did at the beginning of the year. We’re starting to put some things together, mainly just serving better and playing more aggressive,” Carless noted of his team. “These guys have been really working hard so I’m just happy for this particular group of guys to get our first PAC-12 win ever on the home courts.”
“We had our chances, with multiple set points, match points and breaks up, but we failed to capitalize. Part of it was our own fault, but great job by the Mustangs today. They failed to give up when things didn’t go there way and continued to fight until the end,” said Utah head coach Roeland Brateanu.
