Pro Circuit Recap – Lohan Perfect In Portugal, Dolehide Wins In Winnipeg, Doubles Success

There were no ITF pro circuit events in the United States this week but players with college ties still had plenty of success across the globe. University of Miami (FL) rising senior Sinead Lohan won her second career singles title after defeating Alicia Barnett (Northwestern ’16) in the final of the ITF $15K in Cantanhede, Portugal. Lohan jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set and took it 6-2 but Barnett came back in the second and after going up 3-0 she took the set 6-4. Hayley Carter accomplished just about everything there was to accomplish in her four years at North Carolina but instead of continuing her playing career on the pro tour she has decided to start her coaching career. Oklahoma State women’s head coach Chris Young announced on Thursday that Carter will become the Cowgirls new women’s assistant coach replacing Matt Manasse who left to take the same position at Duke. Rolando Vargas Headed to Radford, Assistant Coach Hires, Matija Pecotic Hangs It Up, Wimbledon Update

Radford Director of Athletics Robert Lineburg announced the hiring of Ricardo Vargas as the new men’s head coach. Vargas comes to Radford after spending the last seven seasons as the men’s and women’s head coach at Auburn University at Montgomery which recently moved up from NAIA to D2. Both of his teams won a lot with the women winning four national titles while the men were runner-ups once. Vargas replaces Mike Anderson who recently retired after 21 years. Chuck Merzbacher Headed to Chattanooga, Wimbledon Update, Winnipeg/Winnetka Challengers

Chuck Merzbacher retired from coaching at the end of April but after two months off he decided to jump back in and last Friday he was named the new men’s head coach at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Merzbacher coached the women’s team at his alma mater, Minnesota, for the last five years and prior to that he served as the women’s head coach at Ohio State for 15 years. Tristan Meraut & Eudice Chong Win First Pro Singles Titles

Tristan Meraut had never won a pro title of any kind before this week but the Oklahoma State rising senior managed to win eight matches over the last week to win the singles title at the Germany F6 Futures in Saarlouis. Meraut only dropped nine games in his three qualifying matches then during the main draw he won all five matches in straight sets with no opponent winning more than seven games. In Sunday’s final, Meraut won 75% of the points on his serve and broke his opponent Alexis Gautier three times in a 6-3, 6-4 win.  Meraut came into the week with only three career main draw wins and he had never advanced past the second round but the draw...
