Saturday Recap: Busy Day in the Pac-12; Duke Holds Off Michigan in Lake Nona; New Mexico Upsets Wichita State; Texas A&M & Georgia Score Top 25 Wins

Saturday was a busy day across the Pac-12 with 8 of the 9 men’s schools in action while there were 4 in action on the women’s side. On the men’s side #7/#6 Stanford and Cal finished off weekend sweeps of #21 Arizona and Arizona State. Stanford won a top 25 showdown over Arizona in convincing fashion with the Cardinal winning every completed set in singles. Cal came back from 2-0 down with four straight set wins in singles to defeat Arizona State 4-2. #12/#21 Oregon overcame a slow start at home to defeat Washington 5-1. Amanda Stone To Louisiana Tech, Other Coaching News, US Open Results

Louisiana Tech Athletics Director Tommy McClelland announced the hiring of Amanda Stone as the Lady Techsters new women’s head coach. Stone comes to Ruston via D2’s Northeastern State (Okla) where she won 81% of her matches as head coach over the past four seasons. Stone graduated from Northeastern State in 2007 and also spent two seasons as an assistant at the University of Rochester prior to becoming coach at Northeastern State. New Mexico VP of Athletics Paul Krebs named Stephanie Wooten-Quijada as the Lobo’s new women’s coach. Wooten-Quijada, a 2009 Purdue graduate, resigned as the women’s coach at UTRGV on July 24 after leading the program to an 11-11 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. New Mexico Vice President of Athletics Paul Krebs announced the hiring of Ben Dunbar as New Mexico’s new men’s head coach. Dunbar, who played at New Mexico from 2008 to 2012, was an assistant coach at New Mexico for the last two seasons.
